Johnson withdrawing is a win-win-win-win-win 21:31 - Oct 23 with 1098 viewsArnoldMoorhen

For anyone who wants an end to Tory misrule.

1. No return of PM Johnson. Has to be a good thing that the narcissistic sociopath has been shown that his actions have consequences, and that his self-regard isn't matched among most of those who have worked closely with him.

2. Sunak (presumably) can't claim "I have a mandate", which Johnson would have.

3. The Tory Party will now have to deal with the fall out of the bloke who the members rejected (for whatever reason...) becoming leader and PM, probably without the members having a vote, and the bloke the members love love being blocked by MPs. Expect some deselection moves from constituency party members pssed off that their MP didn't Back Boris.
And expect them not to leaflet and campaign for Sunak.

4. The angry Brexiteers in the Red Wall constituencies are going to be pissed off with the Tories for betraying their cult leader. They won't turn out to vote for them.

5. Sunak will have 50 or so pssed off ERG hardline Brexiteers to deal with, when he only has an 80 majority. And Northern Ireland is still not sorted. It's May's problem all over again.

Not good for the country. I don't expect shenanigans like Proroguing Parliament from Sunak. I would expect him to resign and call a General Election the first time the ERG block a solution to the Northern Ireland crisis.

A couple of things on points 4 and 5.

The ERG has split on this, with a number of them not backing Johnson this time. Thus reducing one tranche of rebels.

The Red Wall voters, having obtained their Brexit, were recently more annoyed at Johnson over the betrayal of promises on "levelling up" for the North. Mind you, Sunak has also been caught fobbing them off.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

All will be swept away after the GE - once a swivelled eyed loon always one.

Sunak will not want them spouting their far right shte that reminds voters of Truss and the ERG.

Lest we forget, Sunak has spent most of the last 3 years happily propping up a far-right ERG puppet PM.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

While Johnson dropping out is amusing, Sunak’s policies will be worse for the majority of the UK and his cuts to public services will be the deepest of them all.

We can laugh at Johnson, but Sunak will hurt the pockets more

I'm not sure there would be that much difference, with th books needing be balance

I think Sunak with Hunt and others will roughly strike the right note. Whereas Jonson would simply spout any shte to who ever is listening

wiffle waffle paffle piffle, more money under the Tories, more nurses since yesterday, waiting list at an all time low........ then fck off on holiday, again

Sunak is the best of a very, very poor bunch

Surprised Mordaunt didn't gain a lot more votes than she has - as a Labour voter/supporter, she's the one I'd have feared most in a GE.

It doesn't matter which Tory takes the PM spot.
The mortgage repayments/rising rents coupled with the increase in energy bills will not start coming down for at least 2 years.
It's damage limitation now. Mordaunt might have reduced the damage but not by much.
The built-in 50 seats for the SNP means Labour won't have the landslide majority that the media talking heads think they will. Their majority if they have one will be slim.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?
