Just reminding you here. 22:02 - Oct 23 with 3236 views | BlueBadger | Rishi Sunak has spent most of the last 3 years propping up Boris Johnson, opposing public health measures in a pandemic, quietly ramping up austerity and handing tax cuts out the wealthiest whilst offering below inflation pay rises to public sector workers who've been on the receiving end of real-terms pay cuts over the last decade or so. Iain Banks on 'decent Tories', springs to mind. [Post edited 23 Oct 2022 22:10]

He's just been hiding behind those who have. The political equivalent of Richard Hammond.

We're probably stuck with "Cutter" Hunt as Chancellor, unfortunately. Which means efficiency savings (sic) all round. However, to be fair, Sunak did point out repeatedly that Truss' ideas were insane.

Just reminding you here. on 07:11 - Oct 24 with 1913 views | GlasgowBlue | However, the reality is that so long as the Tories can command a parliamentary majority, there doesn’t have to be a general election until December 2024. Our mortgages have gone up and our pension funds have gone down. Inflation is spiralling out of control and the UK economy is on th shrink. Out if all the candidates for leadership in the summer, Sunak was the only one to predict this would happen if Truss became PM. In the short term, Sunak is the person that the markets have enough confidence in to get a grip on the finances. Vote these fookers out in 2024. But until then, Sunak is the least worse Oprion.

Least worse option is also their best option of standing a chance of retaining power in 2024. Should Sunak reverse the decline in £ don’t forget people have short memories. The next election is there to be lost by either party.

Thanks for the down vote, not popular to remind people who the real nasty party is? Vote the tories out and get that lot, more of the same eh?

No, the Tories are still the nasty party. It’s part of their ideology. The Labour right are empty, nasty people who shouldn’t be anywhere near power. But they’d probably still be better.

"More of the same"? I put it to you that the reason the Conservatives are called the nasty party is not because of their internal machinations but more due to their ideological "small state/low tax" approach which devastates not only public services but the lives of the vast majority of citizens. But you crack on. [Post edited 24 Oct 2022 8:07]

Both you and gazer, along with many others make the same mistake. Concentrate on why the party you support will be best for the Country…..be positive. The negative approach…why you shouldn’t vote for the other party is counter productive and leads to defeat.

It was a response to a false comparison. I didn't appreciate that attempting to explain why the Conservatives are called "the nasty party" required me to outline why I thought any other political party could be described as "nice". I make mistakes on a daily basis, I don't believe my reply was one of them

Just reminding you here. on 08:15 - Oct 24 by gazzer1999 | So large state high tax is the way forward? If your tax was raised to 45p in the £ and the state told you how you spend your money, I bet you would be the first to complain. "But you crack on" |

Concentrating on why another party shouldn’t win will not achieve the result you want.

Indeed. The Conservatives are inherently against helping the poor and needy in real terms. It’s a feature not a bug. Although, even if they at least start on the centre-right, we should still be wary of the self-appointed “alternative” who are an awful bunch of antidemocratic, visionless fûckweasels ...

We have one of the lowest tax takes and public spending compared to GDP in the OECD. And one of the most centralized, unbalanced and least productive economies too. The penny may eventually drop that we’re short-changing ourselves and really just filling up already rich pockets.

I was happy to keep paying the NI increase and not reverse it, but labour opposed it, and no I do not earn a large salary, quite modest really.

New New Labour are similarly trapped in a low taxation mentality. But you’re talking 1 or 2 percent here and there. The tax take and spending need to go up by 10% to put the UK near our neighbours who seem to take running a modern, civilized country a little more seriously than we do with the low-investment, “trickle-down” rut we’re stuck in.
