God do we need a striker 21:45 - Dec 29 with 1231 viewsonceablue

Ladapo not good enough

If he doesn’t score he contributes very little

He gets bullied by opposing defenders

Strange take, he was the only one linking well with other players tonight, held the ball up well and when we finally starting to pass to him in the 2nd half we slowly started to get closer to goal.

If a striker only gets 2 chances given to him, we'll have to spend well to find someone who's going to put those 2 chances away.

The issue is he doesn't fit the system. With Rotherham, he was at his best in a two. He is not the kind of player to play on his own up top.

I don't know why we didn't play it into him more often to be honest. Against Oxford we fizzed balls into him and let him bring others into play. For large parts today, nothing was fizzed into his feet.

More so, we need to stop conceding goals from the first time in a half that a ball gets played into our box.
It's annoying the p1ss out of me.

Would've taken a point before tonight though.

KM must have spoke about it at HT as it was night and day how often they passed to him 2nd half.

Oh another one.

This isn’t football manager.

We score 2 goals away at Pompey and you blame our lack of firepower?

How about we concede literally every chance we concede.

Did you even watch the game?

Utter rubbish, imo... The reason he's in the side is because of what he brings on top of his goals. He's an important player in this squad..
At home against Pompey he scores a great goal. Tonight wasn't his night in front of goal..But he caused enough problems up there to help us fight for a point..

Hang on the first goal he completely missed the header from 6 yards out luckily Burgess was there

2nd goal he wasn’t even on the pitch,

Have to agree, if we do not find a decent goal scorer in the next month we will end up as play off contenders. No good having the majority of possession if you have not got a poacher in the box. Look at the teams starting to breathe down our necks

Freddie was a constant threat, the ball is played in to him with his back to goal, and he does really well to hold it and recycle it. I thought he got his head on for the first goal, and Burgess then made sure, but whether that was the case or not, I thought Freddie was really good tonight. And he's on track for 20 goals.

Poll: would you rather

Bizarre isn't it! Top scorers in the league but we need a striker! No one starting threads about the cheap goals we keep letting in! As I've said elsewhere on another of these threads, Plymouth have won their last two games 1.0 - not needing to score loads of goals, just keep a f**cking clean sheet, when it's needed. If we end up in the play offs (absolute disaster if it happens), it won't be for lack of goals scored, it will be allowing the opposition score goals without having to make much effort.

I like how so many people jump to his defence. We all want him to succeed, right? And he seems like a really nice guy. I expect though that once he leaves he’ll largely disappear from our historical memories. He’s not doing anything near enough to become memorable.

But he’s what we’ve got right now, he’s doing ok if not spectacularly, and he’s shown in the past he can offer a bit more of a goal threat (if only in one season). I like evidence, so expect more of the same from him and a quiet exit at some point. But on the flip side, it won’t take much for him to make himself a cult hero. He’s getting the chances - he just needs to take them when it matters and change games, and then he’s Reusser 2.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Did enough to occupy a defender and allow Burgess to be free....
He's an upgrade on who we had up front last season.
Get off his back. He might have been one of the squad that was ill in the week..

Ladapo is a very good option for us - the depth beyond him in that role is not.
