I hadn't realised that it had been pretty much steadily getting closer to midnight ever since the demise of the Soviet Onion.
Most of that seems to be to do with the lack of action on climate change, but Ukraine and stupid referees seem to be edging us ever closer to our doom.

Did ye hear the one about the old, empty barn?
Yep,I'm not sure if I'm more distressed about our current form or "The Batman" soundtrack not even getting shortlisted let alone nominated for the Oscars or this Clock....and the worse thing about the clock it does not take into account the climate issues...just the pure nuclear winter likelyhood .... not something i fancy.. being a teen of the "Threads" generation.

They do take account of climate change though. The lack of action since the early 2000s has been probably the biggest factor in the worsening outlook. For some reason it doesn't seem to scare the general public as much as transient wars etc.

Yep,you're right mate. I had always presumed (wrongly) it was only based on nuclear/atomic issues.

go listen to War for the Planet of the Apes and youll realise why the Batman might not meet the 80% new music required of a franchise, its part of the DCEU, film.
and the Doomsday clock doesnt ignore climate issues, it measures how close we are to a man-made global catastrophe. So an asteroid extinction event, or super volcano, not accounted for, but global pandemics or rise of the machines and ai would be.
in anycase how come no one has mentioned Iron Maiden yet...2 minutes to midnight

Eeeeeee when I was a lad, I was aware of CND and its march to Aldermaston to protest Nuclear weapons. Some friends, and their parents, were spooked by the threat of Armageddon. I was never convinced that Ipswich was ground zero for an attack so why worry and ITFC was my main topic of conversation anyway.
Does the clock affect your day-to-day? Not mine.
Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

i remember around '83 - '85ish it felt a very real possibility a (mushroom) cloud hanging over our heads constantly and with all the US airbases and Sizewell Ipswich felt very ground zero to me as an early teen. mum and dad had friends in Reading and i remember one day having a day trip out from there to see the "lesbians" at Green ham common.

An ex of mine and some of her friends (all from Ipswich) went to Greenham Common for a whole summer. None of them were lesbians. It was an all-girl camp as 'men' were the reason we were in this mess. The tabloids therefore dubbed them all as lesbians because the tabloids are run by men and well, y'know. The bloke in charge of the country was very anti-women. I think his name was Margaret Thatcher.
