Calm is needed 09:22 - Feb 5 with 1919 viewspennblue

There is nothing to be gained from a melt down after yesterday.

We are 6 points behind auto spots and we are playing Sheffield next Saturday.

All that matters is we beat them next week.

What is done, is done, that is now history. We can only focus on what is in front of us.

We are all happy with the business done in January, and I do think Hirst and Broadhead will start firing, they both have quality.

If at the end of the season we fall short, the weaknesses will be rectified.

This is now a well run football club, and we will see continual improvement. This is how Brighton, Bournemouth and Brentford all got their success.

We have to stay with the team and show some patience.

Completely agree. Well said.

We're 6 points off top with one of the best young managers in the game who is having a really good first full season.

The idea that automatic promotion or we've failed us bonkers. Club is making good progress.

McKenna is a coach to be proud of. If we fall short in the play offs, I would absolutely back him to get it right next season.

TBH, i've no interest in Sheff wed, we won't catch them.

What is however more annoying is that we are only 6 behind plymouth who've potentially just lost their GK who stat wise is a massive reason why they've been as good as they have been.

But rather than it being just ourselves chasing them, we've got Derby to contend with now, which is incredibly annoying considering they were once 14 points behind us.

It’s been spectacularly flouncetastic. I get that people need to vent, but still. The nature of the hot takes has been something else.

Expectations have a lot to do with this. So many were saying we were going to win easily; seems that people can’t handle it when reality doesn’t go their way.

If over-the-top flounciness is not the done thing - could we also fall short of praising McKenna or at least deflecting criticism away from him. Hes got a job to do.... and it's a tough one .... but I don't think it's too unfair to give him a bit of heat at the moment ....and that heat he could also put to good use and recycle by putting some fire into the bellies of the players. We look really weak mentally at times and maybe a bit less calm is needed and a bit more fire n brimstone is needed.... however unfashionable that is.

More like we have repeatedly failed expectations since October. Every team drops points, but not to the extent we have over the past three months.

ETA - It’s only been three months, not five. Feels like three years.

There are 19 clubs in this league that have dropped more points than us over that period - https://www.twtd.co.uk/league-tables/competition:league-one/daterange/fromdate:2 (ok, different number of games played so it may be a bit more).

Over the past 5 months? That takes us back to the beginning of September. Our form through September and October was good, it's been since then that we've struggled. Three months is still a long time to be off the boil, but the exaggeration isn't really helpful.

Apologies, completely lost track of time for some reason. Though it’s felt longer than three months!

Sorry but calm isn't needed. what is needed is the manager to put a rocket up the ar$es of the highly paid players to do the job they've been signed to do. And that's not to consistently fail on delivery what the manager is sending them out to do.

The calmness and laid back mentality is imo what is costing us. To long now we've seen everyweek Morsy, now Keogh coming out " there's plenty of time left" forget that, every game is a must win, if you keep thinking oh it's ok plenty more left, then no wonder we get performances like yesturday, because " there's always next week"

Burgess a few weeks ago, came out with " we'll be there OR THERE ABOUTS" there abouts? wtf is that. Thereabouts shouldn't even be a thought when sat at the time in the top 2.

Last 8 games is our lowest form spell. We’re 13th over that spell, which isn’t great granted.

Post Charlton we've been going at 1.5 points a game over 12 games. Prior to that we were going at over 2 points a game. It could be coincidence but it feels like that mad injury time collective brain fart has really impacted our season more than we could have anticipated at the time.

The OP is obviously talking about the melts in the fanbase, not the team. I’d imagine the team had a rocket at half time yesterday.

Apologised, as pointed out, got the timing wrong - should be three month. That leaves us eighth, having played at least one game more than four of the seven teams ahead of us.

It is not great form, but things can change quickly in football too.

The Abbey just does not suit our style of play at all. It is ideal for long balls / corner kicks / set pieces / long throws imo. But we are just not set up to play like that. If that is our undoing at the end of the season, then so be it, but we can't really radically change style at this point of the season.

If we do end up in the play offs, and in the final at Wembley, you would like to think our style of play is ideal.

We have one of the best stats when it comes to corners

Clarke also showed out of nowhere he has an incredible long throw

We subbed both off as a tactical move at HT.

Concern is justified… some poor results on 10:44 - Feb 5 with 1262 viewsunstableblue

Yesterday the team didn’t turn up for a must win game. But we’ve also had Oxford, morecambe and Burnley excellent performances.

We’re a bit wobbly at the moment and the manager is learning how to manage a downturn for the first time. It’s a player performance issue as Andy Warrens rating highlight.

Our fans are great in terms of turnout and numbers… I mean a beamback against Cambridge with a couple of thousand.

But we’re like the club/team… we have a glass jaw and a real lack of confidence (justified by the last decade)… but as you a melt down is going to get us nowhere… and we need to boost the team against Weds… not make them more nervous

“But we’re like the club/team… we have a glass jaw”. Spot on. It’s also only a minority who are panicking (albeit some are VERY vocal about it, not mentioning any names!). Generally the support is excellent. PR a bit quiet given the numbers, but it always has been.

Very enthused about the state of the club after today by BlueBadger 29 Jan 2023 12:42
McKenna is about the only one of our post-Mick managers not to talk about 'long term building' but ironically, is probably the only one who might actually be doing that. We'd be mad to get rid at this point.

Portman Road has been quiet since the development of the North Stand. Even in the excitement of the Royle years - someone who constantly had us punching above our weight - the crowd sounded flat compared to Burley’s (another one) time.

And played much better second half, getting the equaliser and having chances to win the game. The changes at half time worked in terms of improving us.

We need to turn Portman road into a very unpleasant place to be next weekend, just as they did to us.

I've been wrestling with that game in my head for a while - I know some people are keen to draw a straight line between that and our form since but I can't fully get behind that theory as it seems too easy.

Having said that, being pegged back to 2-2 having been 2-0 up then fighting on to go 4-2 up again (very, very) late on probably reaffirms the belief that we're never done and can always get the win by hook or by crook. Then to let that lead slip away so easily and so quickly probably has the opposite effect (not to mention being soul-crushing) and it's not hard to see how that's quite a big psychological barrier to get over, especially as we've had games since where we've had to either really push for a winner and not found it or have conceded an equaliser with almost the last kick (even allowing for the fact they were deflected and had an element of misfortune).

In a game like Morecambe where we go ahead so early then get a second not long after we look like a weight's been lifted and we really can boss things. Likewise Rotherham - fair enough they probably gave us more space than we'd normally get in League 1 but we played with freedom and and without fear whereas in the League games you can almost sense there's a tension in all the players that they can't shake. If we're in front we don't believe we can hold on and if we need a goal we don't believe we can get it, particularly if we have our momentum checked and we struggled to get any tempo going.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.
