Going on recent form… 23:22 - Feb 11 with 2716 viewsSitfcB

A draw was a good result for us, hadn’t realised Wednesday had won 6 league games in a row and not conceded in the last 5 of those.

A draw was an even better result considering the circumstances of the game!

When they came back from 2 down against us at Hillsborough it kickstarted their season, let’s hope it has the same affect on us!!

Big refereeing decision went for them also (the player who should have been sent off). In most other matches that would have been a straight red (and sometimes the refs in other matches have red carded the wrong player after).

Looks like we are play off bound though

Not sure if you saw but Wednesday were a towering long ball side there for the taking had we not gifted them two goals, missed a penalty and failed to turn up for 40 minutes. There’s a lot of talk about being happy and grateful for a point in a must win game.

There a a lot of hope on this forum. I’d rather form over hope.

“There for the taking” is a heck of a take when talking about a team top of the actual league and top of the form table for two months and who were riding a six game win streak.

Sure but going on recent form we’d be 14th. I’m not sure if half this board either live under a rock or just skipped economics class. Y’all might be fine with everything and falling out of the automatic chase but I can assure you Gamechanger won’t be. They have some very aggressive plans and that include being in the Championship next year. Anything less than promotion will be a huge disappointment rather than a higher league finish being seen as sign of progress, that many on here will no doubt claim.

They will have a lot less patience than our fans and need a return on their investment. They rightly have their eyes set on the Premiership, not Forest Green Rovers away. So let’s see what happens but this idea of today being such a great result is laughable just because we in a huge slump.

Not sure that’s the case, pretty sure they said their timeframes were this season or the next in one of the meet and greet sessions or press conferences, and that seems reasonable.

I think we can reasonably expect significant improvement and that would be play off, I’m pretty sure that was most peoples minimum target this season. Next season is automatic and no excuses, we are clearly not far off that, but clearly also some way from finished article.

For me defence will need a serious look at if we don’t go up, I also think we create so little centrally it makes us too predictable, opponents know we continually go wide and are set and ready for that. We need someone who can compete physically but also pick a foward central pass and beat a man, Evans isn’t that, maybe Humphries is, and maybe Ball or Camera but I’m not so sure.

The only Muff in Town.

In isolation, absolutely! Even better to see us come back and get a point. However, our recent form and performances say differently.

The biggest concern I have is the amount of times we have a big crowd/pressure game we need to win and simply don't have the bottle to pull it off. It doesn't inspire much confidence if we do miss out on the top two does it and I think that's what is causing the anxiety amongst the fan base.

The matches against Plymouth and Wednesday are not the 'must win games', more "preferably don't lose".

The must win games are those against teams below us, especially those in the lower half of the table. Those points are the bread-and-butter of a promotion push, not the toughest matches with our direct rivals.

We’re playing catch-up, it was a must win.

Yes, although when you repeatedly fail to win the must win games then that makes games like yesterday more of a must win than they'd otherwise have been.

In that context, every game is "must win". Tho that's such a wide criteria that, really, all games in a season can be considered "must win" except maybe a couple at the end if a team is already uncatchably in the desired position.

The thing is though it is correct to say they were there for the taking. They were not particularly good. Did some nice passing on occasion but just had the quality when it mattered.

Given how the game went you have to take that as a decent result and move on - drawing against Wednesday isn't where this season's won or lost, need to make it count now against the other teams.

Surprised this seemed to be straw that broke the camel's back in some respects, the way some have gone on you'd think we'd just lost 3-0 to Forest Green or something. Obviously we have bunch of posters this season who salivate at the thought of not winning so they can come on here and revel in negativity but beyond those divs it seems odd to me that so many are going even so far as to complain we're going to drop right out of the top 6 completely.

Anyway, have to find our early season form again pretty much immediately and have a great opportunity to put disappointment behind us and get on the run we need.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Did you see the table before the game? We were at home as well. This is what I’m talking about AGAIN.

In your own head you’re playing scared. We need to be expecting to take it to the next level.

Not to mention we aren’t doing the other thing you said right now either.

It's not a given yet that we will remain in the top 6, we hope we do, but we need to start winning games to make sure we do. That's fair isn't it?

If it's still plausible for us to catch top 2, then likewise it's plausible that we could finish 7th.

Despite what people want to believe we're not losing the amount of games or playing badly enough to fall right out of the top 6. It would take a serious downturn in form for that to happen.

If we struggle to pick up many points from 5 frankly very presentable games now then it's maybe worth more cause for concern but a lot can happen in that time.

We're drawing far to many, that's just how it is

If you still believe we can catch top 2, then it's no different to any of those below who think they can catch us too and have the same belief.
Wycombe win their game in hand, it's just 6 points to us,
Barnsley are 6 points behind with 2 games in hand
Derby 3 points behind with a game in hand

We do have 5 winnable games, correct, but I thought that against Cambridge, Oxford and Lincoln

Im hopeful we can do enough. But it's wrong imo to bemoan anyone who doesn't think we're safely in top 6 yet.

Our challenge is to catch the top two. Unless their form drops off dramatically, achieving that will keep the Wycombes etc at bay. Let's see where everyone is in 5 matches, but if we don't win at least 4, preferably all, of them it won't look good enough.

Nothing's safe until it is, but by the same token getting twitchy about something that's unlikely because it *might* happen is a bit pointless and just negativity for negativity's sake that doesn't add anything to the conversation.

Weird mentality with Town fans that they assume every other team will always do everything perfectly whilst we'll struggle. People were crying about how Derby were going to usurp us and challenge for the top 2 in our place because they beat a load of crap teams (fair enough, we've struggled to do so in a similar period) then they lost and now it's the other teams that are going to win every game and overtake us.

Derby's next fixtures after Lincoln and Charlton (12th and 6th in the form table):

Barnsley A
Cheltenham H
Shrewsbury A (won their last 6)
Plymouth A
Oxford A
Fleetwood H
Peterborough A

Then they play us at home.

We have 5 bottom half teams on poor form. We then play Bolton A, Shrewsbury H, Barnsley A and Derby A. That will be a tricky run so even if we do win the next 5, there is still a lot of work to do.
