Whats our best team Bingo!! 12:33 - Feb 16 with 1487 views | Cheltenham_Blue | Without injuries, and playing at the level they should be. 4-2-3-1 only. (KM won't change) .......................Walton Clarke .......Wolfie.......Edmundson......Davis ................Morsy......Camara Burns...............Chaplin..........Broadhead ......................Ladapo Subs: Hladky, Leigh, Burgess, Evans, Ball, Aluko, Hirst 3 or 4 of that starting line up shouldn't be playing at the moment due to loss of form and for me, we still haven't solved the question of wide left. Lots of players missing out. JD, Harness, Edwards, Humphreys, TJJ. No wonder we are struggling with form, imagine how mad first team training must be with the number of players we have.

He does love Hirst doesn't he. Im not writing Hirst off by any means, I know he's had great schooling at youth level etc. But barring half a season at Pompey he hasn't been very good anywhere.

It’s a fair point. Apart from his time at Pompey he hasn’t done a lot elsewhere. Let’s hope he catches fire with us.

he's got better movement than Ladapo in the box. Ladapo is on his heels too much but he occupies defenders better than Hirst.
Whats our best team Bingo!! on 13:49 - Feb 16 with 1262 views | TalkingBlues | If we are playing the aggressive football McK wants to play and we should be playing with the squad we have available, everybody is match fit and firing, then I think we should be lining up in a 3-5-2 as follows: ..............................Hladky .........Clarke ......Edmundson......Burgess Burns...Camara.....Evans....Morsy..........Davis ................Chaplin..........Broadhead......... *by the book, a 3-5-2 is usually seen as a more defensive line up, but in this case I'd tweak it so Burns/Davis are more midfielders than wingbacks and Evans has a license to play a free role in more of a CAM position, with Camara/Morsy being the workhorses [Post edited 16 Feb 2023 13:53]

3-5-2 is a very flexible line up. I like that idea TB. Exactly how I see it, except we need a better Centre Half. Is John Jules still with us? We used to call it Lambingo, do we now have Mcbingo? [Post edited 16 Feb 2023 16:15]

I think I would rather see Edmundson instead of Burgess (which then sees Woolfenden on the left of the 2 CBs) but McKenna does appear to be favouring Burgess at the moment (but he wasn't until a couple of matches before he got his injury). I also think it is difficult to know where a fully fit Camara would or wouldn't fit into his plans. Aside from those I don't think there is much to dispute here. Also, as with all good managers, form and fitness affects this and who is first choice at any moment will change due to those factors.

The Burgess/Edmundson conundrum is a tricky one. On one hand, Edmundson is more mobile and has better distribution than Burgess, but he has one or two mistakes a game in him. On the other hand Burgess is a far better header of the ball, but, that distribution.

I have been unimpressed with Burgess as a one-on-one defender recently. I also think Edmundson had a good understanding with Woolfenden and they tended to cover each other's mistakes well. I think Edmundson is a better leader and organiser and I think our defence is lacking those qualities without him.

Hirst is very much a this guy should be brilliant look at his metrics signing. But most informed sensible people seem quite unimpressed so far.

I think our CB's are more than good enough for League 1, but there's too much pressure being put on them from other areas of the pitch currently, which makes them nervous and they subsequently make silly mistakes that they weren't making in the first third of the season (don't get me wrong though, I'm more than up for a Jason De Vos signing!). I'm not sure any of the long term injured are even back out on the grass yet, so I don't suppose we'll see much of them in the remaining fixtures, Dom Ball maybe the most likely and that's probably only because we are so short of numbers in midfield.
