Any appetite for renewals on Ukrainian Season tickets? 07:40 - Mar 27 with 1561 views | bluelagos | So first up where we at? So last season, you guys stepped up, dug deep and we raised enough money to fund some STs for Ukrainian refugees. We got 2 tickets in block J (near me) for the two Ukrainians who I host and also 6 tickets in the family enclosure. Each match these are offered to the Ukrainian community and every match we have some take up, typically around half a dozen Ukrainians enjoying a match. We had some spare cash and the shop points so with both I got scarfes, hats and gloves so we also have some blue anx white clad youngsters too. Downsides are evening games where attendances are low (school nights) and the pain in the arse nature of hanging around for arrivals,, trying to find people for the tickets and occasionally late changes of plan if little Oleg has a bad cold etc. As for those who"ve come, there are always smiling faces. The younger kids especially seem to enjoy it, the teens seem typical teens and the mum's are always keen to say thanks to you guys. Typically the families are slowly settling in. Mum is typically with a couple of kids and weekends is one time where work is more easily available (hospitality) so that limits some families options, also some families have returned to Ukraine, which is great for them. So all in, think we have done well but I won't be administering a repeat. Not least as my old man is in hospital and that is taking up a fair bit of time. Lots of rambling to get to a point of if anyone wishes to take on something similar - we have the ability to renew the tickets. If we don't I doubt we will find 6 seats in a row in the family section....and the pices go up if new purchases. So if anyone has like a spare half hour on match days, the enthusiam for the fund raising and patience to text out and find/allocate seats - then please step forward. Happy to answer any questions and share how I done things/contacts etc. Anyone? And if not, no worries, I havent kept a tab on all the names but think we have seen at least 20 different people, most have come for 3 to 4 matches to enjoy the footie and know that they are welcomed by the fans. They sit, enjoy the footie and not one rude word reported so cheers to all those who have come into contact too. Edit: We need someone to run the scheme - fundraising is the easy bit! Given some of their recent community work, they might also be able to broaden it beyond Ukrainian refugees as well. PS - Sorry to hear about your dad, wishing you all the best. [Post edited 27 Mar 2023 9:03]

Got to be worth a go. I believe the club already support some work with Afghan asylum seekers living in the town (more like footy sessions and the like) so you'd think this could be accommodated. | |
