Completely forgot he existed despite being one of our 'key signings' in the relegation season. Since leaving almost 2 years ago he's played 9 times for Bristol Rovers and Tranmere combined. His 8 appearances for Tranmere in League 2 have all been as a sub, with his most recent game coming on for 1 minute.
He's only 30 and was in the League 1 team of the season in 17-18 (alongside Morsy and Dack in midfield). That's quite a downward spiral...or shows how bad our recruitment was then
The thing that really set alarm bells ringing for me was when he did an interview early on saying something along the lines of it taking a year to find his feet after a step up in level which kind of sounded like he was sacking off that season and would pick things up again the following season.
Hard for most players who came in during this period. That's not to say he is or isn't potential L1/Championship level, just that it was next to impossible to do well at Town then. Also not helped by our signing lower league players only strategy (AKA trying to do everything on the cheap but dressing it up as a grand plan).
If he'd have been one of a couple of signings from League 1 and integrated into a settled team of Championship-level he might have fared better but in reality rather than being an up and coming League 1 talent ready to make the step up he was just a decent lower level player who'd just had the best season of his career. Much like Hurst in that respect.
Evans didn't have a clue and was just doing what he thought was right, sanctioning sales to give his new man money to buy players that were simply never going to be good enough. No wonder we had Dave Bowman having to try and recover the situation by pushing for signings like Walters towards the end of the window so we had some people in the door who might be able to help us out.

Donacien now looks the best , despite being overlooked by the genius Paul Lambert & has been replaced by Harry Clarke. Jackson is a decent impact player with a good attitude, but I don't expect him to be playing much if we get promoted. Nsiala, Roberts, Edwards, Nolan & Harrison - no wonder we were relegated!

I think he also had a few personal problems?
The crazy thing about that 'do it on the cheap' strategy was that we didn't do it on the cheap. I believe we paid £2 million to get Nsiala and Nolan from Shrewsbury.

I thought he was the worst example of a player going hiding and not wanting the ball, he would show for it but always seemed to do it in a fashion where it was impossible for him to recieve the ball. I can only think his confidence was completely shot.

I agree that he was largely anonymous but I can vividly recall his shocking performance against Coventry just before lockdown in March 2020. The highlight for me was his excellent cushioned header to the goalkeeper that spared the blushes of the Coventry defence after a mix up. It would have been easy to panic and put the ball in the net from that position.
