Do we know whether the club plan to run any special commemoration on Saturday seeing as it will be the 34th anniversary on Saturday?

I’d imagine liverpool will, possibly sheff weds, if you like to attend those. Don’t see the need for ITFC to, and can’t say I ever remember us doing so previously

Unnecessarily flippant response there, but not unexpected.
But, that being said, you're right, I don't recall it happening except in the immediate aftermath of the event.

I read that as meaning if you like to attend a commemorative event for whatever reason, that is the play to go rather than being flippant.

Lots of people may have had family/friends there and want to mark the occasion in some way.

Truly impaired.

I did not read it as flippant either.

Was on the terrace at Bradford the day of the Hillsborough disaster. We drove past coaches from Nottingham and Liverpool on our way up the M1. We knew nothing about what was happening until we got into the car post match and put on the radio for Sports Report and the classified scores.

We had Hillsborough, Hysel and the Bradford fire all in a few years. Football so much safer today than it was then.

Indeed. These events should be marked and remembered but I don't think every ground should mark every anniversary of each one.

As somebody old enough to remember how football grounds, thank goodness something positive came out of the awful Valley Parade and Hillsborough disasters. It’s dreadful that so many had to lose their lives to force change, but that’s often the way I suppose - e.g. the aviation industry..

Looking back with todays eyes it’s incredible what was accepted as ok and normal back in the day.

"Looking back with todays eyes it’s incredible what was accepted as ok and normal back in the day."

Like the authorities attempting to blame Liverpool fans for the deaths. Thankfully the families of the victims refused to accept the disgraceful lies.
I'd like to see BA raise a simple banner before the game. "J4T97 Don't vote Tory. Don't buy The Sun."

There has been something at PR since, might have been for the 25th or 30th anniversary.

I was thinking of conditions people watched the game in, not the disgrace of the politicians and authorities that sought to lay the blame for Hillsborough on the supporters.

My point was around what it was actually like in the ‘good ole days’ and what people thought at the time. Attached is a pic of PR early 70s as I first remember it.

https://pixels.com/featured/ipswich-town-portman-road-aerial-view-1-1970-legenda

It was tidy, modern to me. Much better than most of the other dumps we went to. But the reality was standing for most supporters, wooden seats in the West Stand and some in the ancient Chicken Run.

West Ham was pretty squalid and located in mega squalid, Stamford Bridge (built on the spoil from the excavations from the first underground line, the Metropolitan) was a barn of a place. All broken terracing miles from the pitch, two decrepit stands and ugly people. Norwich - went to a game there and stood in the stand that later burned down…. ‘accidentally’ 😃. It stank of damp, rotting wood and mouldy people. Crystal Palace - shallow terracing where there was cover and a dirty great bank at the Holmesdale Road end. Southampton - ludicrously cramped, Portsmouth - total dump. The old Den? Built on a rubbish dump. It remained a rubbish dump.

Even the grandest, Highbury was tight in the stands with no facilities and a big open terrace at one end. Our supporters including me occupied that (Clock End) in the semi final against West Brom. About 20,000 on one terrace, a small block of toilets at one end. That was it. As bare as a baboon’s rear end. Crushing? All a big laugh. Facilities? Eh? Be in for a big game by 2pm latest or forget it. Earlier was preferable. Get your place, don’t move. Ease and nudge to move from tall or flea ridden people. Make sure you’ve eaten and been for an eyelash before you go.

Boy have things improved and alleluia for that. I loved my time standing at games. It’s the best way to see a game, but there’s no way after Hillborough standing should be allowed in grounds of any size in my view. Modern facilities and all that go with it are so much betterr.

Birmingham was the worst I went to, followed by Luton. We loved it as teenagers though.

Luton was terrible. Pillars, broken terracing and just a couple of streets to get to it where the local boneheads waited. I was there for the FA Cup match in I think 82. Packed it was and we won comfortably in the end, despite Butcher bleeding like no tomorrow. There was a fair bit of trouble after, but luckily me and the gf at the time dived into the Arndale Centre and listened to the sirens over a coffee.

Went to Birmingham in the 70s. It was nicknamed ‘the graveyard’. Dreadful place and awful scumbag supporters. It was an insult to graveyards really so you aren’t wrong on either count.

I love what BA do for the club and my political views align with the sentiment there. However, I would suggest "J4T97" would be sufficient.

Some Ipswich fans openly mocked Justin Fashanu's suicide.

We wore red shirts that day which masked how much blood Butcher was pumping out.

I was behind the goal with our lot and boy was it tight. Better than the crummy stands though. I sat in the main stands one years before and there were 13 pillars between us and the pitch.
