I don't think 'the Palace' or government said 'no football', but that the Football League chose to avoid any possible competition for their last-day drama. For the Premier League the season still has quite a bit to run. First-class cricket trundles on as usual, all day.
I think the issue was the police and transport system in London asking for no games. But because it was the last day of the season in the Football League, you couldn't have some games happening and some games not. I haven't checked, but I'm guessing all the PL games are well away from London. [Post edited 25 Apr 2023 18:03]

I hadn’t realised how long the PL have left. Brighton still have 9 games to go, which is just short of a quarter of the season. What have they been doing for the last 9 months? The Championship had the WC break, so it seems a bit odd that the PL have so many games left. |  |
