After all the results are announced, they will no longer have representation at council (or any) level of government anywhere in the country.

What about those tossers that were the Brexit Party - Reform is it? Did they have any candidates up?

Trouble is they’ve already caused the damage they wanted.

They've not got any seats tonight but have a few left that they won in previous cycles that won't be re-contested for a few years.

Even in the areas like Sunderland where UKIP did well in 2019, Reform are picking up less than half of their votes

Plenty of their policies have now been adopted by the mainstream parties for them to be largely no longer seen as a protest vote.

Hardly something to celebrate.

When you have a Labour party supporting our EU departure, authoritarian measures like ID cards and desperately flag shagging with the worst of them, I'll retain my contempt for our politics irrespective of the vote for Ukip.

Thanks. Blimey, I hadn’t realised they were on a par with the Tories in some areas.

I don’t think ID cards are any more authoritarian than passports or drivers licences, but I suppose it’s arguable. Otherwise yep, it’s hard to compete for the shock protest vote when the governing party have stolen your obnoxious alt-right xenophobic platform.

id cards are authoritarian? You’d better tell all 47 other European countries that have them.

Flag shagging?

They all moved to hospital construction and medical supply chain companies and are getting rich off the extra 350m a week were are getting for the NHS.

Yep, clearly an authoritarian measure. That others have it is not argument it is not authoritarian.

And yep, flag shagging has been done before, I have no issues calling it out irrespective of who does it or when it has occured.

That is makes traditional Tory supporters like you feel at home does rather make the point that Labour have become a party I for one think has a lot of problems.

Better than the tories? For sure, but they are a becoming more Tory light by the day. Maybe thats whats needed to get the Tories out, but how about ditching the Tory policies.

Indeed. And the Brexit supporting Labour opposition.

No one will talk about Brexit despite it being evident that it has been the biggest act of economic self harm in recent British history.

I dont blame the people who believed the lies but I do hold particular contempt for those who campaigned for them and repeated them. And now our politicians are scared to actually state what is blindingly obvious then and now.

So we remain on a road that is damaging our economy and our future prospects....

It's easier for politicians not to mention it.

Opinions are shifting though, as of the start of the year 55% thought Brexit was a mistake and 65% wanted another referendum within the next 10 years.

Those numbers are only likely to increase whilst demographics change, however when we inevitably rejoin it'll be without the perks we enjoyed before.

It's been a disaster fuelled by a large chunk of the UK population being unable to assess sources and evidence and make an informed decision. Hopefully that is being better addressed at the school level but I'm not so sure.

Agree with much of that.

You do however miss the other clear driver...the Scapegoating of foreigners and that has arguably got worse.

When we have people aware of the state of the NHS and somehow concluding that the reason is some refugees in a dingy I struggle to see a shift in many people's attitudes tbh.

There is a clear case that we need increased migration. Look at the birth rates in the UK and they are below 2 per adult, in Scotland it's under 1.5

We clearly need migration (of.working age people) or we will end up with shortages in agriculture/hospitality/care homes.

Middle England wants it's shelves full, want their parents cared for, want to visit the pub...don't realise these won't be possible without significant migration in the years ahead.

The case for freedom of movement (for us as workers and as recipients of workers) is stronger than ever.

Maybe it takes another 10 years but when those in power don't even attempt to make the case, what we have got now is that people are left to work it out for themselves...

But the racists will remain very vocal about refugees etc. And the politicians are queueing up to jump on that bandwagon.

Fly yer flag Keir,.far easier than actually addressing the issue of migration and our country's needs.

This is a good point, although I think it's a sub-component of not being able to properly analyse evidence and sources. If one can do that then they would see that the propaganda around immigration is nonsense.

Unfortunately many people are unwilling to do any form of cross-checking themselves and believe the soundbites put out by people such as the home secretary (both this one and the previous one).

It was a bit of an anomaly because last time these seats were fought Theresa May was about to be ousted by the ERG and the Brexit Party hadn’t started fighting elections yet which made UKIP the only hard Brexit protest vote at the time by default. But even with that taken into account, it’s still a surprise as this was around the time Tommy Robinson was getting involved.

The party that has co-opted UKIP policies had an awful set of results as well in fairness.
