Eventful afternoon in court... 20:21 - Jun 19 with 2774 viewsbluelagos

Was in court today and witnessed a Daily Mail journo get punched outside the court by a disgruntled relative of a guy who got convicted.

The convicted bloke was a proper piece of sh1t and the journo was just trying to get a photo...

Unfortunately for the punchee, one bloke was filming it and a plain clothes copper just happened to be in the vicinity.

Whilst I in no way want to give any leeway to a Daily Mail hack I think he would be the punchee, being the receiver of the punch and the relative, being the donor of the punch, would be the punchor.

Any broken bones ?

Cut lip and a bit of blood.

I will say I asked him if he was ok without knowing who he worked for.

(To be fair, he seemed like a decent bloke)

I guess in straightened times you cannot always choose who you work for. Was this the appallingly tasteless T-shirt trial ?

A photographer is not a journalist

As to the proximity of the copper, I often witnessed violence on the beach.

I once saw a bloke set about his wife with a stick, and almost immediately a copper turned up. Arrested the bloke, and the dog with a string of sausages

"That's the way to do it " I thought

Most journalists these days take their own pictures as well.

Far more serious case, but doesn't seem to have been reported on much.

Was asked to write a victim statement (but they were rejected by the judge as the submissions were late)

Really, not any I know

Photographers sell their photos to agents who then sell/syndicate them

I cannot see any journalist sporting a camera being allowed into court, or even on the premises.

"Capa accompanied then-journalist and author Ernest Hemingway to photograph the war"

If Capa filed any copy it was long after the event.

The idea that a journalist would be insidfe the court, then rush outside, collect his camera to photo said miscreant is rather stretching things.

More so for I preseume a run of the mill case.

Indeed - told Lou he was going to visit her brothers grave and take a "sh1t" on it. Also took a photo of her brother and put emojis of "sh1t" over the face.

We were hopeful for some prison time - if only to send a message to any other potential trolls. The reason his sentence was suspended was because of Covid. Guidelines were issued about avoiding jail sentences where possible and these haven't been removed (genuinely)

He was a lucky boy, but hopefully he'll learn his lesson.

A) not all photographers work for agencies, the Mail still employs staffers
B) Said photographer would have been punched on the street outside, photojournalists are not allowed to take photographs within the precincts of the court. To do so is subject to an arrest and is deemed as contempt of court.
C) How many press photographers do you know? Feel free to give me their names, I probably know them.

If you wish to call me a liar Harry - I'll politely tell you to fck off.

He was inside court and taking notes. I know cos I spoke to him and even have his business card which I can tweet if you really wish to see it.

After sentencing he went outside to get statements from Lou and the guy (and brothers) came out.

He and others went after them for a photo.

You weren't there so why you feel the need to question what I saw I don't know. But do yourself a favour and wind yer neck in.

Don’t let it wind you up pal. He’s full of wind, and knows nothing about journalism or photojournalism. He’s displayed that quite clearly.

I’d rather he didn’t learn his lesson but got rogered in the showers instead.

What I just read on the link is totally alien to me.

It’s off the scale - for example, the bloke with the 97 shirt at Wembley was one thing, not a great thing but Munich 58 shirts used to be quite popular in the north west.

The above is pretty bad but the stuff on the link is just crazy.

Curious, isn't it, that a t-shirt which is foolishly worn in a public place but not specifically targeted at a single individual gets that much publicity whilst these truly malicious messages on, so-called social, media that are designed to inflict mental hurt on particular people with a direct relationship to the tragedy almost fail to grab the attention of editors and others in control of what we see ?

So the guy who kicks out (8 seconds) is the DM journo who is kicking the guy who has just punched him. Can't really see the punch but he had bloody lip from the guy's swing at him.

Not all journos and photographers share the vile views of their emploeres - I suspect many do not. But a job is a job. Might be better if all employees for Murdoch, Rothermere et al stuck to their principles but I guess there'd be many more queuing up to write the steaming lying pile of filth in those papers.
