That's the line that popped out when Ashton is talking about our transfer targets. More than the slow transfer market more generally, this is why we haven't gone crazy.
So far we have Taylor who has been a long-term target. But we only *need* a couple of players (strikers) beyond that. It's paramount there that we get the right players who can fit the system as well as Hirst did and Ladapo still does.
So trust in McKenna to fill the gaps (there'll be no-one more committed and knowledgable about that) but also trust in the existing squad and team. We only need a couple of quality additions and these become more apparent/aavailable when other clubs start sorting themselves out. Arguably, we're already ahead of the vast majority of top-tier clubs on that score so we're waiting for them to catch up with their squad business. |  |

He said that last season when we spent all summer chasing Hirst and ended up not getting him.
People can argue all day about what we need but the club certainly want more than that and will be frustrated not to be further down the line on that front. |  |

I think we need more than a couple of strikers. We're light at centre back and, quality wise, need better wing options - especially if Burns and/or Broadhead pick up injuries. Would expect us to elevate the full back positions as well, as not sure if Donacien and Leigh will cut it long term, though dependent on our overall target for this season that could wait for next summer. | |

Agree. I really want Hirst. He really took the team to another level and I think he can step up.
I'd be concerned if we were going for players like Simms with fees like that. Right now it feels like the club is only going one way. Targeted investment based on constantly improving the good and good management of the team/club overall. If we started making bids of £5m+ I would be worried about how sustainable it was.
I'm sure by the first game we will have another couple in. By the end of the window we will have 3-4 in. It feels like some people were expecting us to spend £20m+ this window. Was never going to happen. |  |

Last thing we need are any incomings, disrupting that.
What might look like a decent signing at a glance. Could easily push us backwards, if they are not of the right character and mindset to gell with the set up..
