Interesting (leading) article on BBC Sport website re being a free agent, not getting a deal at Burnley, knee injury etc - I’m trying to work out if the article helps or hinders his chances of picking up a deal somewhere?!
Not sure he has enough to offer a Prem side unless they suddenly have injuries and he can join as a free agent. Even Saudi Div 2 side turned him down.

He was on 5 Live yesterday evening talking about how he'd almost got a contract at Burnley, and then various things have fallen through since then. It sounded like an unpleasant situation, a reminder that football can be quite brutal and players can be at the mercy of somewhat shady characters.

Rather than desperate I guess he's relatively picky about where he goes next too. At 32 and having earned the money he has over the past 10 years or so he's no doubt able to be selective. There's also potential media work and what not that he could do.
It's players like Matt Penney I feel a bit for. I thought he was absolutely dreadful for us, but didn't expect him to still be without a club. I thought he might've gone back to Motherwell as they seemed to like him there, although different management there now. His career earnings are probably relatively low and it's mentally a hard transition to have to give up the game and follow a different path. |  | | |

Maybe he's being picky too (Penney). Could surely get a contract at a National League club or L2... perform well and get a better move. Will earn enough to get by innit. Perhaps he's been dicked around though. | |
