We never really got going, yet go top of the league 09:02 - Oct 1 with 2108 viewsMullet

I genuinely went with two non Town mates, one a ST holder of decades and another a neutral who borrowed his mate's ST. They sat in different stands. The home fan was adamant it wasn't a penalty and Hladky was our best player, the neutral agreed it was stonewall and also picked out Hirst up top.

If that was/remains our worst performance of the season we'll be all right. I think it's too simplistic to just say we missed Morsy. Clarke, Evans, Davis weren't up to their usual standards, Hirst wasn't clinical but did everything else well, you can be hypercritical and make a case pretty much every player did something wrong, but so what?

More likely, is that Moore is the only man in the world so well versed in facing McKenna ball and did everything he could think of to neutralise it. Combine that with players wanting to impress their new man and every time we didn't keep our shape, cross convincingly or match them in midfield showed just how good we've been this season.

I liked what all the subs brought to the game and seeing Williams score in such an improvised manner was pleasing. But we seemed to give away a goal from our own short corner essentially. Hladky and their keeper made some excellent saves and the rain made it a game where we probably should have made more of our pace and didn't seem to get things cohesively put together often enough.

Doing some rough maths I think I made it 2.4ppg and current form puts us at 112. We'll get nowhere near that you presume, but even dropping tens of points will be enough to go for top six. The start we've made is so impressive.

We haven't so much run at adversity but clattered it and then kicked it in the b0llocks on the ref's blindside. Hopefully that'll keep it away for some time.

It was interesting that in our group of 4 Town fans (meant to be five, but good to pass the spare ticket onto a TWTDer) the consensus from that small sample was that we left a little bit underwhelmed by the Town performance, a bit flat. Feeling that Evans didn’t grab the game or have the energy/pace, and that Chaplin and Burns were quiet. But with Hutchison (despite having a rough ride), Hladky and Hirst standing out for the blues.

But what was interesting was the view of a Huddersfield mate who was in the home end we hooked up with after… he thought a draw was fair because despite Huddersfield deserving to go 2-0 up Ipswich were by far the ‘classier’ side. And that it was good quality Championship side.

We almost didn’t like to say it was Ipswich’s worse performance of the season alongside QPR.

So what’s the point - I think we’ve just been spoilt by our start and our standards and expectations have been raised to that of other fans. And I agree with Mullet if that’s as bad as it gets we’ll be Ok. In short we play great stuff even when off the boil.

I also agree Moore did a number on us and nullified our playing through the lines.

Beginning to see people talk about PPG and trajectory, perhaps a bit early, I think the next two games will tell us a lot about the season ahead. Hull will be difficult but we should dispatch Preston with ease (despite their (false) league position)

What is really pleasing is that despite the pretty football and the plaudits we have a side who can also put in the hard graft, gain points when it's not our day, show character in the face of, yes I'm going to say it, adversity.

We've felt like a soft touch, like we had that flabby belly for so long, to be able to go toe to toe with seasoned sides full of not just experienced capaigners but also those well versed in the dark arts and still come away with something 9 times out of 10 just feels, well good and almost un Ipswich like.

I'm obviously not just referring to the latest game here, but it really does feel like we have the edge to get something from games now which may be the difference between fourth and ninth for arguments sake, or even second and sixth.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

We had a Morsy-shaped hole in the centre of the park. With the Skip, we'd have won comfortably.

Absolute bang on OP.

What is a scary thought for 23 other teams in this division is we are barely out of 2nd gear yet. Once Chappers, Burns, Broady and Hirst reach top form, I can see us putting 4,5,6 on a few teams this year. They aren't as sharp as the end of last season just yet.

Until there is a trend we put it down to home team getting max performance from their players and us having a worse day than usual on the pitch. Coming away with a point in those circumstances is good in an away game. However we should all remember the form we are showing is not normal. Dealing with, and coming back from sub performances like today and then losses as they come will be a true barometer of where the team is at over coming months. Back to back draws or dare I say losses would feel like a shock but that’s not unusual form for those even at the top end of the Champ. I guess if you are genuinely in the race for automatic promotion there are not many back to back losses on your form record.

Thus far it's been the three games where we had most of the ball (Cardiff, QPR, Hudds) that have proven tougher than expected.
