Iran talking about piling in now. Whether that be with direct strikes or through their proxy Hezbollah, dont know. But this could escalate very quickly. Biden is going out on Wednesday. I can't see Israel going into Gaza before then. |  |

The fact there has been no significant Israeli ground incursion into Gaza as yet gives me hope that it will be very limited or not happen at all. They gain very little by delaying, other than to give diplomacy a chance to work so they don't have to go in*.
A lot deprnds upon the hostage situation. Jerusalem cannot leave them in captivity and Hamas are going to want a price (most likely their own people released from imprisonment).
Israel cannot get to the real leaders and organisers of Hamas, they're all safe in Beirut and Doha. Plus Iran/Hezbollah kicking off would get very messy (involvement in the Lebanese shambles is not what Netanyahu needs right now).
* It would cost a lot of Israeli lives as well as Palestinian ones, will be expensive, extended and leave the problem of what to do afterwards. |  |

It would be through Hezbollah. Iran lacks the capability to do much from their own country (especially considering there's Iraq/Syria/Jordan in the way). Perhaps lob a few ballistic missiles, but it's at the limit of range for most of what they have.. | |

As far as I can tell, it largely revolves around two sets of violent and incompetent extremists who are happy to regard their own as well as each other's largely blameless civilian populations as cannon fodder and collateral in highly complicated kn0b measuring contest.
