What was going on with the turnstiles tonight? 22:59 - Nov 1 with 2501 viewsITFC_Forever

Sir Alf Ramsey way impassable before the game as so many people were queuing to get in the Pioneer and North Stands.

Loads of empty seats when the players came out, and quite a few still empty when the game started.

Seemed to be problems scanning the qr codes on phones. Was starting to get a bit nasty where we were queueing, some town fans
giving abuse to the stewards, then turning on each other. Not good.

Yes the back of the North Stand and the Pioneer turnstiles were completely rammed and very very slow…

If scanning phone tickets are working so poorly, they need other stewards behind the turnstiles with mobile scanners who can take those people through

Also there was no queue control or barriers so it was really messy in terms of people pushing in.. although everyone stayed pretty good humoured

Loads of people late to their seats

Phone scanning in the Churchman's was a very smooth process when we went in. Indeed several people including myself were scanning twice or more. (I had my grandson with me and he doesn't have a phone).

Good question; my mum was delayed 10 mins getting into Piomeer stand. Wonder what happened; not as if big crowds are unusual over the last 12 months

There were a lot of fans there tonight who don't usually go - I know many season ticket holders who weren't there - so likely many who haxnt used this entry system before. Add to that, many fans may not have expected such a huge crowd, and there were bound to be some queues.
I didn't take my place until a few seconds before kick off, but had a look around and the stadium felt full.

They got me at Rotherham Cup game last season, bought my season ticket seat, scanned at turnstile, didn't go through, so he scanned again, says 'your tickets been used'. WTF, you just scanned it, how can it be used when I'm stood here! So have to back up the queue, go to ticket office, who did a good job after also saying 'This ticket has been used'. They issued me a printed ticket, we all laughed, I went back to same turnstile, told the bloke they were having him in for re-training. It still needs fine tuning.

I think I might have inadvertently pushed in…, joined what I thought was the back of a queue, only to realise it wasn’t a few minutes later.

I print off a paper backup for cup games. Seems to be 50/50 if the scanners will accept a phone ticket. Didn't work last night, but paper one scanned first time.

If I have a QR code I always take a screen print and then magnify for the scanner.

I got to PR about 7:30 and Q for South Stand turnstiles were all the way back at Portman Road, by the time I got into the ground (a minute or two after game started) there will still literally hundreds of people in the Q

They don't have stewards on hand to help with the scanning of tickets, there should be one across each set of 4 turnstiles as a minimum

And they don't have anything in place for queue management, so just big bottlenecks and the like when probably the far turnstiles are relatively quiet - bit of a crowd management failure

Also - was told that turnstiles didn't open until 6:45 which is at least 30 minutes later than normal

Lots of trippers not having their paper tickets ready.
Lots of trippers with phone tickets but not turning up their phone screen making them hard to scan (any shadow makes it impossible if the screen is dark)
Lots of trippers not used to queuing for 15 minutes and getting agitated
Lots of trippers :)

Nothing against them, we were all going to our first few games at some point - they're like tourists who stand on the left in London.

I've heard the scanners at the SBR stand do struggle with mobile phone tickets at night games, not sure if it's the brightness/contrast, type of screen, delay to scan or what.

But its why I printed mine out as my screen is cracked anyway. Then chuck in lots of people sitting in different spots, maybe never been before, yeah I'm not surprised there were delays.
