Exactly 2 months ago 17:58 - Dec 17 with 3024 views | Dubtractor | We were 9 points above Leeds, and 11 above Southampton. Despite both of them being in excellent form in the 10 games since, Leeds have lost a point on us, and Southampton have gained just one on us. Of course we'll drop points, lose games, and have some disappointing results over the remainder of the season (much as we have in the last 10), but overturning 10 points is a really significant challenge for those behind us as it gives them almost no margin for error. Yesterday is a good example of that - we dropped points and Leeds will have been banking on 3 home points to close the gap, but another game passes with the gap retained.

Exactly 2 months ago on 18:03 - Dec 17 with 2943 views | Herbivore | We've just been relentless since February. Even if we have a (relatively) poorer performance or a bad result, we just get straight back on a run without missing a beat. Saints and Leeds have been in auto promotion form for a while and they haven't been able to make up any ground on us, it's amazing what we're achieving really.

We ain’t even on a run, we just keep playing our way, and grinding the results out, 9/10 times outplaying the opponent as well. It’s mental. We are just so consistent in what we do, even with the little mistakes.. but we still come good.

I really like the reply that says they need to address the LB position.

Would bite your hand off for a draw there right now. Nerves now turned to that game already. Going to be a long week again.

Fancy us to get something, hopefully, a Sunderland (a) or Southampton (a) performance. Pressure all on them.

The marvellous thing about it is that even if we lose, we're seven points ahead of them and nearly at the end of our toughest run. A few weeks ago I'd have said that losing there would have them breathing right down our necks or even overtaking us; now a defeat wouldn't be the end of the world at all. It means the pressure for us is completely positive, because if we get anything there the case for us going all the way starts to look irresistible.

Yeah definitely, been predicting a loss for this one for a while, and certainly wouldn’t be the end of the world now, just think it would be a mini physiological battle won by them with a win.

I'm expecting us to go for a win. Think we can do it, too. The first match turned on ten minutes when our defence wobbled, including what appeared to be a miscommunication between Hladky and Davis. Very early in the season, too. Not to mention the first game where they all their forwards back from injury or being on strike. Avoid that and we can exploit their own weaknesses at the back. Meanwhile, teams are finding ways to blunt their attack, which maybe we can copy. The fans' confidence is wavering a bit, too, if forums and YouTubers are anything to go by - the crowd could turn if we go ahead (or equalise from behind). They dread the playoffs. Much (rubbish) is talked of our "small" squad - the same size 25-man unit as everybody else has. But, given Farke's alleged reluctance to use subs and McKenna's free 60-70 minute rotation, our bench reserves are going to be better integrated, drilled and more experienced than theirs. Rather than just throwing on one or two star strikers and hoping one of them can grab a goal. It's not like we're any weaker than they. Ahead in both real and form tables. Scoring more goals. Conceded only one more over the last six. No reason to feel overawed by the "mighty" Leeds. The game is, for me, well balanced and one where ITFC's advantages in teamwork, fitness, never-give-up attitude and confidence could tip the scales in our favour.

It all comes down to how well we handle their strike force. For me, Axel has to start, and then you have the Clarke vs Williams question. Pretty sure Clarke got done last time, but he would have learn't a lot from it, but I think I would go for Williams. Psychologically I think that could give us the edge.

From what I have read/seen of Leeds fan opinions, the feeling is they do not have a strikeforce, so much as four good strikers. The distinction being how well they do or don't work together as a unit, rather than individual skill. We have a well-oiled, low-ego and high-functioning strikeforce, in which the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. You can tell this by the way opposition commenters are constantly amazed at how our players previously thought of as average-to-decent at best are performing so brilliantly together.
