That's the way we play. We're not going to have it our way all the time 16:58 - Dec 23 with 936 viewsjasondozzell

We don't want too much expectation and entitlement creeping in again.

If someone has said we are going to get well beaten away by one of the prem sides at some point I think most would have conceded that that's the reality of the step up in the championship. It's taken until the end of December to have our first really poor showing (other than West Brom).

The game was tighter in the first half than it looks on paper.

It's how we play and we wanted to have attacking and brave football. It means accepting that sometimes we might concede goals on the break. Sticking to our guns has proven to be the right approach this season.

KMac learns from these games and we'll be stronger for it.
7 points clear at Christmas! What an effort from this squad over the last 5 months.

Most probably expected a loss.

But not many expected us to gift them the pitch.

Many people here make Leeds out to be Man City or Real Madrid. Ffs they are beatable if not they wouldn't be 7 points behind us. In fact Coventry held them to a draw at Elland Road just last week.

McK may harp on playing "attacking and brave football" but such football is kamikaze when facing teams that are superior man-for-man such as Leeds. We should have approached the game similarly to what we did at Southampton earlier this season. The team already had a taste of what Rutter, Piroe, Summerville & Co could do at PR and yet still tried to bomb forward leaving acres of space at the rear.

Sometimes practicality has to take precedence over style. If we needed to play 10 men behind the ball to steal a point, so be it. In the grand scheme of things an ugly 1 point is infinitely better than being destroyed and leaving with none. Look at how the scum played vs us last week and today vs Huddersfield. Totally different in approach. We don't seem to have a plan B at the moment.

"Running towards adversity" comes to mind, let's see how the team reacts. Leicester next, tweaks needed or another defeat follows

We didn't concede from Southampton's first shot on goal.

Or their second chance, or their third too! In the first half, how many saves did Hladky actually make? One I think and that was put straight back past him for 1-0.

Yes, but we were much tighter at the back and did not leave large gaps for Saints to exploit. Today we played much higher up the pitch. It is easier to close players passing the ball through the centre than those racing down the wings leaving Clarke and Burgess exposed time after time to a de facto Prem frontline.

Against Southampton? We won 1-0?

Right, yes, but the game state affects how you can play. It's fine to allow the other team sterile possession at home when you are the underdog and the score is level/you are winning.

As soon as we go 1-0 down, we aren't in a position to play that way.

Exactly, it's because we've stuck to our guns uptil now that we are 2nd in the league on 52 points.

Had we been more conservative in our approach, 2 or 3 of those wins would have been draws.

It will be tougher in the 2nd half of the season, but 2 or 3 decent additions to the squad, and there's no reason we can't get 13 or 14 wins from the remaining games...excluding Leicester.

Poll: So what do we think will happen with MM and the Aston Villa job?
