His years of mismanagement and underinvestment is the reason clubs like Brighton overtook us and despite the last three years remain light years ahead in terms of recruitment setup, stadium, training facilities and position in the football food chain.

Agree, right now. He has a golden opportunity to build that with us but is jumping ship (maybe) for a bigger transfer budget. A Spurs etc I can accept but this just feels un-McKenna and a kick in the balls. After this ride we've been on if ye feels Brighton is the step up then see yer later pal.

But even a genius such as KM can see they’ve peaked. They’re not going to break into the top six.

Nothing is guaranteed, if Pert and others go it becomes super difficult. However Ashton brought McK here, and now we're in the EPL, I say Ashton has planned for this eventuality and has others lined up. McKenna has done wonders for this Club, but let's not forget Ashton and our owners have had a massive massive influence.

If he does desert us and boogger off for a bigger transfer budget, I just hope the Rob Edwards links are wide of the mark.

This. THIS is exactly what I can't get my head around. Their ceiling has been hit already. They won't get better than 8th/9th consistently. It's probable we wouldn't either, but our journey's only just beginning. Cat 1 Academy, new training ground. New players. Stadium expansion. We have so much going for us right now. After working like a monk for 2 years to get to this point, why not at least give us another 12 months of service to stabilise us? Feck him. If he is genuinely going to Brighton, he's dead to me. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Don't care where they are at present, on 21:12 - May 20 with 2582 views | FrimleyBlue | Fear of failure. Simple as. No reason town can't be Brighton or more with current owners as shown by what they've done so far. Jumping ship now is imo a sign of a person who doesn't have confidence in his ability. Which is odd for what he's achieved.

The idea that Brighton have hit their ceiling and aren't significantly further down the line than us as a club is a bit silly really, and is just 'cope' as Gen Z would say.

They finished 9th, 6th and 11th in the last 3 seasons. Prior to that, 16th, 15th and 17th. Are they really likely to replicate that 6th place finish year in year out? What if McKenna finishes 11th/12th with them again next season? Does that REALLY enhance his reputation? More so than keeping us up?

....the last 16 of the Europa League this season, beating Ajax en route. Pfft, we got 4 points off Rotherham! No comparison. [Post edited 20 May 2024 21:23]

He got relegated. Not sure that's what a club just promoted wants. We'd lose Davis without a doubt. Good money tho. If he's been floating for a move. Hladky is probably now a released player and heading to Brighton Omaris already signed his loan agreement We either are able to go into the league with KM or we need a manager who knows how to put a prem team together.

New manager would want his own team as well, thats the way football works. Unless we go left field and offer it to someone like Lee Grant but I can't see it

I didn’t say they weren’t further down the line than us. I’m saying they’re at the end of their line. And their stadium is a s**t rich man’s FGR ground.

Their ambition will be to get to a point of repeated European football and remain firmly as one of the 'best of the rest'. It's obviously a much safer bet for him to enhance his reputation there than here. He can finish around 10th again there and prove his worth as a Premier League manager, but fail to keep us up and there may be other people who excite the boardrooms of bigger clubs and he's back to square one.

Wasn't aimed at your post specifically, more the general comments from here, Twitter etc. that Brighton wouldn't be a big step forwards for him.

But if his reputation is as high as it appears, a battling relegation on his CV after back-to-back promotions wouldn't hit his stock. It just wouldn't. Kompany's talking to Bayern over their job after Burnley's relegation. Whatever McKenna's asked for, he's got. I'm sure that'd be the case this season too. I accept there's an elite group of clubs that can offer things we simply can't, but Brighton? Feck me sideways.

What, relegation? I actually like the guy and he’s done a good job for Luton. But his style completely contrasts what we are about. Imagine trying to coach a different style in the premier league into a team that has seriously over achieved. It’d be a bloodbath.

Maybe, not saying he'll immediately become yesterday's news but strip the emotion out of it and he may feel the stars won't align to get a job of the calibre of Brighton manager (and it is a very desirable job whatever people want to pretend otherwise) for a while if he doesn't take it now.
