Wrong system with this group of players. We should play 4-3-3.

Walker, Stone, Guehi, Trippier
Rice, Bellingham, Gallagher
Sake, Kane, Gordon
We need to link the midfield with the front line and Bellingham playing slightly deeper will provide that. We have been totally overran in midfield in both games. Gallagher gives a bit more bite and rice can run forward, breaking the line with a bit more freedom. Nothing wrong with the squad, just need to play our best X1, not our best X1 players. It is a team game and all need to know their roll and position.
We will still have Palmer, Eze, Bowen, Mainoo, Foden and Watkins to come from the bench when needed. In the next game maybe Palmer for Saka, just to give him a rest and we should have enough for our next game.
One thing is for certain, Southgate must go if we are to get the best out of our next group of players coming through. |  |

Remember how great a goalscorer Jimmy Greaves was and yet he opted for Geoff Hurst a lot to suit his team. Same with Jackie Charlton. Many better players than him, but he fitted into Alfs team.

Not sure but remember Sir Bob's critics biggest complaints about him during his England time were 1, he's too afraid to drop his favourites and 2, he doesn't have a plan B.
In terms of No.1 they always said the 1986 World Cup proved it. Loads of fans moaned Bryan Robson and Ray Wilkins weren't good enough but Sir Bob was too scared to drop them as they were his favs. First game England were terrible. Not any better in game two, but Bryan Robson was injured during the game and Wilkins was sent off which meant both missed the 3rd group game, and England played a great 3rd game. Neither played in the rest of the tournament, and as we know, England had a reasonable tournament after those first 2 games.
This meant the anti Sir Bob brigade were all 'told you so, he only changed it because the injury & sending off forced him to make that decision, if not his favs Robson & Wilkins would have been named for the 3rd game' | | | |

We have been blessed with the manager we have. The fact we haven’t really had to fight off other teams to keep players says the level they were at, yes good team players but not stars. Maybe a couple have a price on their heads. The difference is the manager and he will be the most important signing this summer. An average bunch of players that are so well drilled and informed that they just go out and get it done. When you look at England they are so far off that, yes it's knockout football but I sat in the last 10 minutes just shouting at the tv to get the ball forward. How that 11 played I would think some would struggle to get into their club team on that display. I’m glad this stuff only comes round every couple of years and we get season after season of club football. | | | |

Historically he didn't have the balls to take a penalty.
His risk adverse approach will always cost us.
