Town 2 Morecambe 2 on 12:44 - Aug 8 by TRUE_BLUE123
Cole Stockton moving like R9 that day.
God we were so bad. Nsiala, Penney, Harper, Fraser, Piggott.
That first goal deary me, even worse than I remember. Poor header straight to them, Stockton just ambling into the box, Evans and Woolfenden getting in each other's way, Penney looking like he's trying to shield him from running towards the corner flag for some reason and then the shot going through Hladky.
Usually more than happy to accept emotion trumps logic in football but in the moment I couldn't even really get excited for the goal at the death. Just stood there thinking 'is this what we've come to, celebrating a last minute equaliser at home against Morecambe?'
Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Really? You couldn't account for the fact it was a whole new team, because of the investment the new owners had put in, and that it might take a bit of time? Not to mention the fact a boyhood Ipswich fan scored the goal.
It was a disappointing result but that day had some highlights. It was the first time Portman Road had had a proper crowd for a long long time, we scored a last minute goal and I remember wondering why we hadn't signed Lee Evans (or anyone like him) for years. His range of passing that day was brilliant.

I was hoping for slightly more than scraping a draw against a team that had been in League Two the previous season, yes.
A big crowd, a Town fan scoring a goal and Lee Evans having one of the few half-decent appearances of his Town career isn't enough to outweigh that for me.

I thoroughly enjoyed that goal at the time, but it was a classic Cook performance in that we played some good stuff at times but the overall effect was less than the sum of it's parts. I definitely had questions after it, especially after the way we had finished the previous season. Burton the next week was even less coherent.....
Three years does feel quite a long time ago in the context of ITFC on the pitch, we're so far removed from that now. The really weird thing though is that it was the first live match most of us had seen for 18 months.

Yeah, I do remember putting forward the 'you never know it might be a good point in time' argument to try and keep some optimism but the following few weeks quickly extinguished that.
Almost feels a lifetime ago - makes the arguments at the time that we were close to something with that team/manager seem even more laughable.
Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.
Three ex-town players made appearances for Morecambe that day interestingly enough.
Lovely goal by Fraser that day after clever work from Chaplin. Could be looked at as if to say "look how far we've come" but a good handful of players in the squad that day went on to have a massive input on our double promotion.

Burton was the game Edwards came on and provided at least a little joy, right?
I remember it very well - my young Son was one of the mascots for that game.
So many of the players were new, and the boy struggled to decide which player he wanted to come out with...he eventually chose someone that he knew from the previous season, Kane Vincent-Young.
A certain Macauley Bonne was on the bench and as he was getting ready to come on, he saw my boy's eager and excited face. Macauley gave him a cheeky wink and waved, the boy was made up.
I had read the interviews about MB and how much it meant to him to be a fan and play for the mighty Blues...now we could watch him in the flesh.
He didn't disappoint, scoring a late equaliser, his first goal for Ipswich during that wonderful half-season purple patch.
I'm staggered that it was only 3 years ago, how quickly things have changed!

I forgot all about Fraser. I guess he never left an impression on me.

And yet some people are still moaning about our squad now. Crazy times.
No, people are stating that our squad isn't ready for a Premier League season that starts in eight days time. It's an opinion clearly shared by McKenna and Ashton.
At the moment our midfield and attacking options are weaker than at the end of last season.

Basically... SUS x
I can't wait until we're mid table Championship again and all the glory boys and moaning numpties fook off from PR.

Hahaha... the stuff of comedy bad dreams innit.
Mind boggling how far we've come. I agree with some of the negativity and concern about transfers and the current state of the squad, but it needs to be put into wider perspective, imho.

I really liked that game though, and felt quite confident about the season ahead. Thought Harper was brilliant.
