Burley banner yesterday 15:27 - Sep 15 with 3471 views | Reuser_is_God | Amazed some of our fans were unable to hold it properly & were holding it up so it didn’t obstruct their view. Fcuking so disrespectful to one of our all time greats. [Post edited 15 Sep 2024 15:27]

Burley banner yesterday on 15:31 - Sep 15 with 3386 views | FrimleyBlue | Appreciate the thought. But people paid and therfore should be allowed to view what ever it is they wanted to view. I don't see why you couldn't hold up a banner pre game as you re not missing anything that isn't done every game. But they have paid so it's up to them isn't it. Doesn't make it disrespectful imo. But a shame however

Agree with this and might have greater impact if on show at home, when Burley is at a game.

We don’t really have a great track record with banners at Brighton, do we?

Burley banner yesterday on 17:03 - Sep 15 with 2930 views | Blue_Order | Frustrating, and seems to happen whenever we rely on folk outside of the group to help hold banners. Even started displaying it before the players came out to avoid the upset of people missing out on that, but they still wouldn’t sacrifice a minute of their day to get a small tribute across to a club legend.

I wasn't there but was it clear to someone who wasn't involved what was on the banner? TBH, given the last banner at Brighton I'd be really wary of being anywhere near another one unless it was very clear what was on it!

Yeah, everyone holding the banner was told what was written on it as it was passed to them. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Of course they would’ve done, word would’ve spread. [Post edited 16 Sep 2024 8:28]

I was stood two rows behind and slightly to the right, not directly behind. I had no idea what it said until I saw it on X after the game. Must admit I was worried what it might say as it was unfurled given our previous.

Based on the comments in this thread and others on banners, it sounds like the only issue people have is communication and perhaps not knowing what’s being done. I don’t know what you do already but having the club (on Twitter) and places like TWTD pin a message of what’s planned a couple of days before a game might help massively. Something a long the lines of ‘A club legend will be celebrated with a banner from 2.45-2.55pm. This banner will be removed before kick off so nobody will have an obstructed view of the game.’ That way you can share where it’ll be displayed -which stand at FPR or which blocks at any away game etc. I think folks are generally really supportive of everything you do (even if banners aren’t everyone’s cup of tea), it’s just the not knowing that causes issues and with the level of excitement ‘seeing’ us in the premier league and the money it now costs to do so, think people just want a heads up. Again, I don’t know what you already do, but I don’t ever see anything about potential banners before games.

Burley banner yesterday on 13:15 - Sep 16 with 1329 views | SuffolkPunchFC | The sentiment is well placed, and doing something in recognition of what George Burley means to the club and fans should be applauded. The execution was poor, impacting others who were attending the game. It was the same with the banner for the Liverpool game. It just needs to be thought through better, and the execution improved so as to not impact others. The worse part of it is the lack of empathy demonstrated, as can be seen in the Blue Action Facebook page after the Liverpool game, rather than take on board the comments of those negatively impacted. So who exactly is it being disrespectful I wonder ...

We put info out online beforehand whenever we do big displays, and flyer the section when they’re in A-Block. An issue we have is never knowing if the club are going to pull the display at the last minute, or if something else comes up from our side, which is why info is usually posted the day before once we’re 100% sure it’ll go ahead. We wouldn’t post info about a simple message banner like the one on Saturday as it’s not really needed (and because we didn’t know if we’d get it into the ground until we did) - it’s only the 10/15 people that are holding it that need to know, and all of them were told about it beforehand and asked if they were happy to hold it. All said yes but then that still happened.
