Did Brighton actually create any clear cut chances 10:34 - Sep 16 with 2098 views | Woolfenthen | Other than Murics double save?? Defensively we were pretty solid, yes rode our luck a few times but other than that mentioned above the other saves I'd expect him to make, no?
Did Brighton actually create any clear cut chances on 10:40 - Sep 16 with 2048 views | _clive_baker_ | Luck wise it was a weird one, we rode it defensively at times, they had a freekick and the Ferguson shot that didn't miss the target by a lot, and obviously the double save. I thought the 3 minutes added on time was a bit fortunate as well, I know its measured by the officials but my instinct was it would be closer to double that. I thought we had our share of bad luck though, on more than a few occasions we didn't seem to get the bounce of the ball or rub of the green at times, those 50:50's seemed to invariably fall to a Brighton shirt rather than ours. And a couple of unfortunate bits of hold up play from us as well where you would expect better outcomes when we've not really done much wrong. Delap hitting the post of course, 2 inches to the right and it goes in rather than bounces clear. Undeniably they were dominant, by far the better side over the course of the game and especially in the first half, but it wasn't one where we had all the luck and our goal was living a charmed life. By and large we defended superbly and retained our shape and discipline.
Did Brighton actually create any clear cut chances on 11:27 - Sep 16 with 1898 views | IPSWICHFANITFC | They didn't take their chances but aside from the double save, that was their only two big chances. The Welbeck free kick and Ferguson effort were close and could be counted as big chances. On another day, 2 of those go in. Great point, hopefully gives the players confidence that they can go away from home and be resilient defensively to pick up points like that without having much of the ball. They just need that first home win to build some confidence at Portman Road. The Villa game fits our schedule much better than it does for Villa who are weekend/midweek for the next few weeks. I think they play 3 times before we play them where we'd have just played once. Then they play Bayern Munich and Man Utd at home the following week after our game.

In the first half, Muric made a very decent save low-down to his left early on, and then blocked one that Welbeck (I think) tried to squeeze in at the near post. In the second half, there were two decent chances, one when someone pulled the shot wide to the right, and one where someone shot tamely at the keeper. I think at PL level, these would both be called 'big chances'.
Did Brighton actually create any clear cut chances on 12:07 - Sep 16 with 1719 views | Vic | For a game where one team was so dominant I thought they had very few clear cut chances. Shots outside the box and free kicks don't really count in my book. Like you say, they were by far the better side, but we defended really well, with far more judgement than luck. I'd call it a very disciplined defensive display. In one sense their dominance suggests they can justly claim that they deserved to win, but on the other hand our defensive discipline meant that we can claim that it was a well earned draw.

Did Brighton actually create any clear cut chances on 12:56 - Sep 16 with 1586 views | burnbudgiesburn | It's a good defensive base to work from. I think McKenna has learned from the Leeds game last season. We have to give ourselves the best chance to pick up anything away from home and the longer we are in games the more chance we have to do so. We will need to improve our counter attacking though - several final balls on the break being a little better or better options and we could have created more openings. That was a little frustrating.
Did Brighton actually create any clear cut chances on 13:28 - Sep 16 with 1447 views | MK1 | Many half chances, but we are better defensively these days. O'Shea and Greaves were excellent and Davis and Axel more than stopped their wide options. As much as Brighton dominated possession, they were kept mainly at arms length. That back 5 will give us a solid base to build from.

That early one low down to left stuck in my mind too. Was better than it looked and he held it, I think. One of his best bits of work which has been overlooked amongst the rest was a cross he cut out at the near post diving out right at someone's (O'Shea's?) feet and with Brighton players close too. He did well to get to that and even better to hold it. Superb display.

Based on what we have seen in the past, I feared Leif might struggle defensively, but he has done okay. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
