Could really do with at least 6 points out of those. Anything against Arsenal and Chelsea after that would be a bonus. That would put us on 15 points and in with a shout of staying up after a very attritional month.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

I'm starting to think we need to sacrifice games to concentrate on others.

We are doing OK but the draws are killing us.

Totally get we take each game as they come. But I don't see the harm in rotating more to make the squad as fresh as possible for the next game.

For example we have palace Tuesday. Would it have been better to maybe have rested Sammy yesterday and starting clarke. Or hutch on the bench with Burns starting. Little things like that.

Just until we get to Jan window and can actually field any side any time that can get us wins. But we are at that point where we have to be 100% on it to have a sniff of a win anything less than 100% and we don't have enough to do it.

That goes completely against what has made us so successful over the past 2 seasons.

So yeah, let’s do that.

We won games whilst not playing well in those two seasons so we didn't have to worry to much. That's what established prem clubs can do too which we don't have the luxury of unfortunately. ( yet )

Prem isn't just a much higher level its really short too. We've won 1 game out of 13. Regardless of being able to say we've been competitive in most, which itself is great from where we've come from. But continuing that theme isn't going to keep us up.. so maybe just maybe it would benefit us for a little while at least to prioritise some fixtures.

But which games would you "sacrifice"? Might Tottenham have been one of them, or ManU? In favour of teams like Everton and West Ham who aren't doing so well?

It's a really tricky equation to solve, should we get into such a thing.

Plus it starts to categorise players as "first choice" and "second best", something McKenna has always been careful not to do.

We aren’t getting results against the teams you half think we might, then getting points/playing well against those you wouldn’t think we would.

We are in most games, playing well (if not very flat yesterday) just think we could end up going down because we just haven’t done enough to get those important wins you need every now and then

Your logic would have resulted in the resting of players against Spurs, the only match we have won this season.

I can almost guarantee that if McKenna had taken this approach before you suggested it and we got battered 4+ by Forest you'd be on here complaining that McKenna rested players in a match we could win.

Yeah that's a fair point. Suppose in my thinking it would be better to have 3 points on palace than gaining 3 v forest. We've lost tuanzebe now. What we don't know was if he was a fitness danger before yesterday's game. They say you have a bit of info before a hammy goes.

But no. I'm just thinking out loud really about if there's anything more we could do as we're in a tough spot at the moment where we can't quite get more wins on the board.

One game at a time is the only way forward.

Not really sure why we keep looking ahead at the next 3 or 4 games.

I get that view. And yes KM talks of it too. But he also talks about the next block of games so he clearly holds a similar view to the OP in looking ahead too.

Ye agreed on that. Not enough goals this season. The lack of a back up to Delap has bitten.

I read yesterday that Chaplin had 3 touches in the final third. Is that right?, if that is. That's definitely not gonna help with our attacking play.

Our problem in the second half was getting the ball to the front players, perhaps we would manage it better if we changed to to three in midfield.

Probably true but Chaplin was actually a great outlet yesterday. He was finding space between the midfield and defence and feeding Hutchinson quite nicely.

I think that was more his job than actually providing touches in the the final third.

He probably also would have scored if Delap had known he was behind him and didn't stretch for the ball which deflected it away from Chaplin.

Think that's where Phillips will help us in new few games. He had started to find his passing ranges prior to suspension.

Three from these four starting in midfield

Morsy, Cajuste, Phillips, Taylor.

Someone carrying the ball forward from midfield rather than a forward player dropping back to get it.

That is the difficulty. We have picked up points in games which we would have sacrificed under this theory - Villa, Spurs, Manchester United - and failed to win those who we which would have focused on, in the likes of Southampton, Everton and West Ham.

As an aside, there's clearly first choice and second best within the squad, no matter how they try to sell it. The only question marks are between Burgess and Greaves, where the former kept his place yesterday, and Burns and Chaplin.
