Quite impressive video of the launch, booster re-capture and debris trail here
I’m not sure what I think about all this. Is it great exploration in the vein of the earliest human adventurers or a selfish vanity project that’s increasingly putting people at risk and accelerating global warming? Or both?

They had to divert about 20 airplanes due to the risk of debris falling into them last night, so that was quite risky 😂
It’s vanity and crazy rich guy mentality. Confirmed he is going to have his own office space on the White House now too.

You wouldn't know about global warming without space rocket launches putting satellites into orbit that monitor the Earth's climate There wouldn't have been the kickstart to environmental concerns in the 60s/70s without the Apollo missions, showing the Earth in space and having astronauts describe how precious it was to protect.
Anything that lowers the cost of hauling stuff to space is good for the planet, it puts buddy sharing rides for cubesats within reach of local schools, instead of entire nations, how cool is that ? Kids in schools can build stuff, that gets launched on a gigantic space rocket and learn abunch of stuff and practical skills and it inspires a bunch of them into STEM subjects, who then invent new technology and boost our knowledge that improves everyone's life on planet Earth.
NSF often show how there are a bunch of schools doing science projects around these launches, measuring acoustics, and the environment impact and getting real benefits from it.
And fwiw NASAs budget alone, probably Blue Origins & SpaceX too but I've not worked their numbers out, but NASA alone for sure is less than just the Americans spend on pet treats per year, that's not pet food or vet fees that's pet treats.
So next time you give your pet (assuming you have one) a treat it doesn't need, ponder all the things you lay at the door of the cost of space exploration as being unnecessary costly vanity projects.
