Contracts 12:07 - Jan 22 with 3127 views | itfc48 | It does seems a bit Un-Ashton like that we've got into a situation where Wolf, Burgess, Axel and Fridge could leave for nothing at the end of the season. Is it case that in some cases they've just rejected what's been offered? You could say there's easily in excess of £20m worth of talent there.
Contracts on 12:10 - Jan 22 with 3034 views | pointofblue | For some reason I thought the club had an option with Woolfenden. Unless that was taken last summer? Considering the benefits of selling an academy player over the rest, it does seem shortsighted that Town have put themselves in a position where they might get nothing for him.

Contracts on 12:15 - Jan 22 with 2945 views | Dubtractor | I'd say 20 million is overstating values a bit tbh. But in response to the main point, this is a consequence of the double promotion. The club will, rightly, be wary of offering longer contracts on bigger money to players who may not be in our longer term plans. The risk is that, rather than protect our assets, we get stuck with an expensive contract that potential buyers won't be able to afford.

Contracts on 12:18 - Jan 22 with 2904 views | SaffronWaldenBlues | We had the same thing with Hladky. If we drop you can expect we will do something to keep Wolfenden, Burgess and assuming he stays fit, Axel. I doubt we'd get 10million for all of them if we sold them this window.

10M tops, with Axel being around half of that. Still mostly clear profit for us though.

It's all profit on any one of those players. Academy graduate doesn't come into it - it's the fact that there's no transfer fee amortisation on the books.
Contracts on 12:36 - Jan 22 with 2641 views | bsw72 | Not sure how you get to £20M . . . while we may rate Wolfy as fans but he is just a journeyman defender, same as Burgess, Axel's value is limited due to fitness concerns and Edmundsen is a bit of a journeyman, unproven top flight. I don't think it is that short sighted - we have signed other defenders (O'Shea, Greaves, Johnson) and continue to look at other options like Godfrey.

At the moment the defender who I was unsure of O'Shea is the only new defender who looks up to it and that includes the keeper.
Contracts on 12:53 - Jan 22 with 2417 views | IPSWICHFANITFC | £20m is very excessive. I'd be surprised if you even got anywhere near to £5m for all 4.

I would suggest that your view of O'Shea reflects the fact he has had the longest run in the side, knows the role and is settled. Greaves will also come good.
Contracts on 12:58 - Jan 22 with 2346 views | itfc48 | If you take the contract situation out of it I think you'd be surprised how much some clubs would pay for Burgess. Not many good defenders around with his profile of being a monster in the air, half decent on the ball and naturally left footed.

Feels like Burgess is the least likely to leave; has come on the longest journey so probably happy to be a PL backup + is playing regular international football. I get the sense Woolfy actually wants out and is fed up of being overlooked/replaced. In which case, good luck to him - would have been easy to just stay and be the local buh done good. Axel surely off in the summer otherwise that contract would have been signed by now.

Axel must be worth a fair chunk of that on his own.

Contracts on 13:47 - Jan 22 with 1862 views | ArnieM | I doubt very much the club have "overlooked" anything where player contracts are concerned. So they have either made offers to all players listed in thus thread, or they've decided not too, with a view to move on to better players. As someone else has already said, there is no room for sentiment in the game anymore. It is 100% a business whether fans like it or not.

Contracts on 13:50 - Jan 22 with 1817 views | WeirdFishes | Hard to offer the likes of Wolf, Burgess and Fridge anything when we have no idea where we’d be playing next year. Inclined to believe if we stay up none would be required whereas going down we’d probably want them on the books. £20m of talent? You could argue the ability of them all would get you that in fees but we’d be lucky to get a quarter of that for all 4 with only 6 months on their contract.

Contracts on 15:43 - Jan 22 with 1401 views | DavoIPB | The only one you would keep would be Axel if we stayed up. No where near 20mil for them. Half that max with axel again making up a good proportion.

Agreed. Just looked on Amazon and a Wolf, an Axel and a Fridge can be bought for under a grand.
