The Championship is a tough division. I didn't really understand why they appointed who they did, considering their position and squad make up.

Then again, I didn't understand Rooney's appointment either.

He gave a great first team talk though. I guess that might be the highlight of his tenure.

They've been absolutely remarkable when hiring managers, each one even worse than the last.

I'm really surprised they didn't try to get either Lowe or Schumacher back.

Maybe. I thought at least one of them would have taken it.

Rooney, much like Lampard, Gerrard and Neville have proved, with their coaching careers, that they actually had the tactical understanding of a clothes peg.

Golden generation that learned nothing from the fine coaches that told them where to stand and where to kick it.

With managers like KM ,Thomas Frank and the guy at Brighton proving that successful, tactically savvy coaches don’t have to be retired top-level players, I imagine owners will gradually realise the likes of Rooney should join Allardyce, Pulis etc on the list of modern dinosaurs.

Poll: September 2025. Which one?

I really disagree about Lampard. The others, yes

Seems like only last week the video of the new Plymouth manager’s motivational speech was lighting up social media. Gonna need a new one I guess.

Rooney is easy - he's very famous.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

I think Middlesbrough have offered £5 million but Plymouth have not accepted.

According to today’s Mail they are going in with another offer.

He was there as the camera showed him at the back during the game.

The manager said he selected him but he didn’t show up. He may well of been in the ground after kick off but he was picked and didn’t turn up.

That's poor from him. I totally understand if he wants to move and a bad injury could scupper any move, but it demonstrates a player who will down tools at difficult times.

At least Burnley are a good side with prem experience - Wazza even managed to lose 4-0 to Sheff Weds, and 5-0 to struggling Cardiff.

Plymouth started filming a reality TV/documentary after Rooney’s appointment, so you can see the motivations of their owners bringing him in. Utterly negligent decision giving him the job on their part and have severely damaged their chances of staying in the division. He’d given Plymouth a worse record (at that stage) than Rotherham last year.

The documentary was canned after Rooney’s departure…
