….is still a proper old craphole.

How it passes any sort of safety standards is beyond me.

Lovely.

It's amazingly terrible. Football at its best.

Give me that over a giant soulless identikit any day.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

I'd heard a lot the last few years how brilliant the atmosphere is.

It wasn't.

Probably a bit of what texters says in that we’re essentially a nothing club to most prem clubs and more generally, Palace are comfortably numb in midtable like they usually are. Not getting to Europe, not going down, not really doing much of anything really.

Exactly what we would aspire today.

Will everyone be complaining about that then???

Midtable safety and banking the money every season is the ultimate owners dream. It looks pretty appealing right now, but I’m sure after a few years fans would be pining for a goals galore championship season!

It had a nostalgic quality to it 20 years ago but is now just a bit of a dump with inadequate access into the away end.

Twelve years in the Premier League and the only improvements to the ground are some electronic advertising boards and some speakers.

Yeah I like it with the caveat of the entrance and concourse being ridiculously small. Cool bit of South London though.

Agreed, didn't find it remotely charming. Surprised the PL doesn't have the power to withhold some of the TV money in lieu of stadium work. You can tell the ground hasn't been touched in many years.

When I first came to London in 1982, I lived within 100 yards of Norwood Junction, with its 13 minute service to London Bridge. I then lived in Thornton Heath until 1989. As a result, I always enjoy my trips back when we play Palace.

As as aside, Norwood Junction is the only station I know which has a platform on either side of one line, and in those days, with slam door trains, it was possible to get on a London-bound train from either platform.

I think there's similar at Reading and 99% sure of Finsbury Park.

Someone on a railway forum has posed this question, and you're right about Reading and Finsbury Park.

Agree and I thought the speakers were pretty horrible as well, just pumping noise into the stadium and taking away any of the natural atmosphere

One of the central line platforms at Stratford too.

Actually the road to Norwood Junction and the main road have been considerable gentrified since I was last down there.

Awful view from the back but a proper ground. Easy to get to and pretty decent (if you pick good seats)

Isn't Stadium renovation outside PSR essentially, that's the loop hole so to speak?

But then I’m old fashioned.

Give me somewhere like that with good rail links and plenty of boozers close to hand, over a place like Reading which to me is pants.
