How do you personally feel about the movements of our front line of players.

Watching NF today there were some excellent moved by them which didn't come to anything at the end of them ( balls going out for a goal kick to us etc)

But was was evident on the telebox was the constant movement of the NFs players around the ball holder, when you then watch town attack it just looks so static

Delap is central. Davis goes wide. He stops. Looks for the sideways pass.. Julio or delap lost it and then NF attacked. On the right. Philogene would get the ball high but no ones moving near him to drag the fullback away meaning philogene gets no space to cause any damage.

We appear on screen at least to pretty much attack the same way on every transition. It felt that the NF cbs never moved (, didn't have to ) which for me was our major struggle. They just dropped a couple of cms and we just didn't do anything to try and break the lines.

a niche perspective

Pretty much sums it up. No urgency or threat until it was too late sadly.

Today in the first half was as clueless as I've seen as under McKenna. It appeared as though we were playing some kind of asymmetric system, with a back three, a middle three which included Davis on the left but no one on the right, three tens where Hutchinson and Enciso occupied the middle with Philogene on the right but no one on the left, with Delap up top. To add to that, the rest of the players for the most part seemed to have a personal mission to ignore Philogene completely and target the left side over and over, which was far too easy for Forest to manage. And a lack of left winger meant our left side was exposed, as Davis was having to do it all. I presume Enciso was supposed to stay out there, but he's a central ten learning the game. And he lost position all too often.

Why it took to half time to move Hutch to the right, Enciso to the middle and Philogene on the left is also baffling. How much of the second half was Forest going through the motions and how much was us finding balance I don't know, but it was an improvement.

If he's going to play a back three, and I'm not adverse to it, we have to suck it up and play Johnson as right wing back. He's the only passable option for the position at the moment. And for pure strength I do like the idea of Delap as a ten playing just behind Hirst but I cannot see that happening. But if we're going to go with three tens we need Broadhead or Clarke on the left, otherwise Davis will end up with support or back up - not for the first time.

Davis looked to be avoiding left back defensive duties. There was a gaping hole for 1st and 2nd goals in areas you would expect him to be. It’s crazy to think that he could overlook his defensive responsibilities given the goals we are giving up.

Also what is the point of playing a #10 who losers the ball all the time. Morsey who rarely losers the ball is sitting on bench and could have helped everyone !

I don’t think Forest will have an easier game all season if I’m honest.

I don’t think it is just movement other teams attack with so much more pace

We have a young in experienced front line, so I'm not surprised by our lack of movement and guile up front. Wish we had players like Hirst and Broadhead .....oh!

They beat Brighton 7-0, so I'd say they've had at least one easier game this season.

I knew that would be a reply as I wrote it.
Fair point of course, but I watched a chunk of that game, and I’m not entirely what gane was easier

Forest must have laughed at half time, just let Ipswich have the ball, they’ll take 10 passes to do what 2 could, let them think they have control of the game, bish bash bosh crap at the back, 3-0 down. Lovely.

I think the one they won 7-0 was probably easier than the one they won 4-2, mate.

I don’t think the movement of our front players is great but watching close up, it’s poor throughout the team and actually worse further back. We look lopsided, slow and utterly devoid of confidence throughout.

Our way of playing yesterday was so slow and fear ridden. By the time the ball got anywhere near our forwards, the opposition had enjoyed a cup of tea and a Bath Oliver.

The amount of standing about at the back with the ball not having anyone to pass to was extraordinary. Launch it? There was no point because Delap was on his own, two or more players around him, so even if he made the header his team mates were in the next county. Waste of time.

I actually believe our players are better than they look, just as the team last season was better than its component parts. But a number of the players are not to the level of our opponents, as you’d expect, nor are they playing as a unit.

Where our players need two touches, Forest’s needed one. Their players passed knowing where their team mates were. Ours had to look up and try and find somebody before being swamped.

It’s not really mentioned much but the biggest problem amongst many is midfield. We don’t have one. They neither provide cover for the defence or support the attack. Omari lost the ball quite high up the pitch and seconds later through the wide open spaces behind him it’s in our net.

So as a forward player looking to do something; to take the odd risk it’s hard to do that knowing if you lose the ball the opposition will quite possibly score? How many games have we controlled in the middle this season? 70 mins v Leicester until Phillips was sent off. That’s it. Whoopee.

So apols FB, I’ve not quite answered your question, but with your last paragraph it did feel watching it that it was the same old same old without any variation to pace or method of attack - something we were so good at last season against lesser opposition.

Just a view.

As a postscript, it’s hard to convey just how good players are at this level. It’s the simple things and you cannot afford a mistake. Just before the first goal Phillips fractionally mis-controlled twice as did somebody else. All within a minute or two. Every time the opposition was on it and away. You get away with nothing in the Premier League.

The way Forest play on the break was frightening but we played in to that but giving the ball away so easily something we have done far too much.
We don’t break well unless it’s Delap on one of his solo runs .

Things that frustrate me:

1. Throw ins - no movement
2. Free kicks - a chance to attack we play a short pass then pass it around the back - get the bloody ball forward.
3. Our inability to defend the wings.
4. Delap's movement is fine but pass the ball at times.
5. Our wingers - attack the full back get beyond
