Reading the thread taught me that it was a song written to protest the fact that the rich kids dodged the draft, while the poor kids got sent to their deaths in Vietnam.
And they are marching past Trump while it plays.

Did they play 'Born in the USA' as well?!

Trooping the colour is a load of sh1te. Trump having a birthday military parade is as rubbish as the king having one.
Is that a fact or an opinion? Either way, I have to disagree. In my view, it’s fine. There is nothing wrong with a bit of tradition and a bit of pageantry. The origins are briefly summarised here:
As somebody who is a Parliamentarian, not a monarchist, I guess my support for it sounds contradictory/hypocritical. But it isn’t really. While red has appeared in military dress back to Tudor times, it’s really Cromwell’s New Model Army in the 17c that embraced it in uniform as we know the term.
The Coldstream Guards, on parade yesterday, were also raised in his time. Trooping the Colour as we know it now goes back to George 3rds time, except the period when he was in the rubber room.
The concept of Colours, state etc are age old and I see no problem celebrating it once a year. It’s colourful and the professionalism of those on parade spectacular.
What harm did it do? It wasn’t tanks and missiles rolling through the streets projecting the greatness and strength of new Emperor Trump. It was a bit of pageantry, history, continuity, discipline by 1300 Guards, Cavalry, Artillery and for the crowds, pride and fun on a summers day.
Oh but the cost! …. I hear the dismals cry. Well, it cost MOD £60k. At the most basic level I wonder what the additional takings in bars and restaurants were yesterday?
As for Trump’s Red Square Authoritarian display of power, as another poster said, they looked a right rabble. I suspect the lack of practice, additions to the schedule, Trumps demands contributed to that to be fair to their military which by and large is excellent.

Just my opinion. As is everything I put on here obvs.
You can’t poke fun at Korea and the US and then refer to our unelected monarchs birthday party with a military public display as pageantry and tradition though.

Thats mental.
In my opinion.
I’ve made clear my views on monarchy, but in this instance I take the view that some sort of parade would take place whatever the constitution, just as it did in the 1650s. It’s noticeable that France have been doing an annual one for Bastille Day every year since 1880 and nobody has a problem with that. It’s a full on tanks n all one too.
Trooping the Colour is a very minor event by comparison and does no harm. Even if I could ditch Charlie and the gang I’d still be ok with it. The difference to Trump and the other Dictators and Authoritarians is purpose. There’s is to display power; to shout at the world that they’re in charge; that might is right.
While Trooping the Colour might have been that once upon a time it’s more a bit of living history and a show of discipline and skill by 1300 people. I don’t see harm in it and because of the difference in purpose, I am happy to mock Trump, Putin and the other authoritarians without seeing it as hypocritical.

We don’t tend to post fake images of crowds of course
