Why did they sit on their lead? 22:13 - Aug 8 with 428 viewsBrianTablet

We were totally out of it, then they sat back and let us play.
Weird.

Still, thanks though.
A valuable stolen point. :-)

They could last season.

That's their wake up call.

Also....fitness....they had way more players cramping.

Worst thing they could have done.

I know naturally you do it a bit, but they just totally went back. Maybe it was fitness, I don't know.

Complacency? They did the same last season, but much easier to hold a lead against Mansfield than a former PL side.

Either that or they run out of gas - difficult to keep up that intensity.

Equally why did we sit on a 0-0, sat back and let them play.

I think they feared being picked off if they kept pressing- and they were probably right.

Also, despite the assertions that we were awful, I dont think we let them.

And despite Brum sitting back & Town showing some urgency for 5 minutes after we conceded, we still didn't manage a shot on target until we were gifted a penalty. But for that, we probably wouldn't be citicising Brum's tactics.

This.

But it’s a curious one. The penalty was our only shot on target and yet, going to Birmingham under the lights, with the buzz that’s around their club, and apart from the goal, their only shots on target were straight down Palmer’s throat.

Neither side really did enough for the 3 points.

We made substitutions though that forced them to, dont forget its as much about what both sides are doing, not just one allowing the other back in.

I think our fitness is much higher due to our Prem experience, I can never remember the stats KMc quoted but the amount of time the ball is in play is massively different between L1 & Championship and Championship & Premier League.

It was refreshing to see that old oh the balls going for a throw in i won't chase it attitude back in a game, that no Premier League team plays.
