It seemed in general this weekend that there was less tippy tappy football in the PL and from what I saw of Championship games.
Man City in particular seemed to do less recycling of the ball and took more risks. Players carrying the ball, and taking players on. Crosses going in.
We seemed to be playing more traditional wingers and happier to cross the ball at times.

Not new this season, started to evolve last season - it's how Slot won the league, Palace won the FA Cup, Forest, Bournemouth and Fulham played more directly and got results etc etc |  | | |

I did my 'Introduction to Coaching' course with the FA recently and it was interesting that most of the drills they recommended are focused on scoring as many goals as possible, as opposed to possession for the sake of it football.
It was interesting as I took it as a bit of a dig towards the Guardiola influence, despite how successful he has been! Maybe the FA feel as though football has become boring. |  | | |

FA Coaching used to be built around work by the late Charles Hughes - used to be designed about the quickest way to create a goalscoring chance, and while it evolved, it never shifted fully towards the tippy tappy generation!!

I guess it was always going to evolve. Teams are countering it quite effectively and so now managers - Guardiola included as he always has - will have to find ways to get around that. | |

Man Coty looked a new team. Direct, with quality, quicker transitions.
They have the new ‘pep’ Klopps coach at Liverpool when Mane and Salah had a field day.
Played a high line too, and pressed higher up than I’ve ever seen them.
Amazing to see…, why wouldn’t you want Haaland on the ball quicker with his pace and power.
They were so frustrating to see last season, when sides could get set against them (excluding us…, at home we gave them 5 yards of space to play.., in our own half).
If they can do that against the top teams, and get high line right they’ll take some stopping.
I wonder if all the Peo descioles and I include McKenna in that, are taking note, over playing creates far fewer chances .., nothing wrong with quick transitions if you have the quality.., it’s so much harder to defend against. When done well.
Daryl Murphy 14/15 still the biggest attacking threat we’ve had in the last ten years…, getting us forwards, quickly, with quality, and causing havoc.
We missed out on Mcburnje, similar style player, will work the channels and create space and thrives on quick ball.
He has 5 goal contributions in the first two games.
Leeds last night. Huge amount of possession, looked like they could play for a week and not score from open play.
Need to be able to mix it up at least, and give other teams something to think about.
We all know how we play…, great to see wide players getting wide for the first time at the weekend, that’s variation and the first time I’ve seen us do that, fingers crossed for more, as that’s the strengths of Clarke and Philogene and we too often are trying to coach players out of what they did best before we signed them, it’s like a coach, desperate to prove he can develop players in ways they haven’t yet developed …, we just need round pegs in round holes at the minute, back to basics. | | | |
