Caceres 10:00 - Aug 22 with 1220 views | Trequartista | Replacement for Woolfenden? Is a 20 cap Uruguayan going to want to sit in the stands with Kipre? Bizarre bid.

Caceres on 10:01 - Aug 22 with 1040 views | FrimleyBlue | We don't want players who are happy to sit on the bench, we need players competing to win the place in the side and also enable KM to freshen the side up as and when needed.

Caceres on 10:03 - Aug 22 with 998 views | pointofblue | He won't be. He likes playing on the left of defence. He'll partner O'Shea, Greaves will drop to LCB reserve and Kipre to RCB reserve. Was it £15m we spent on Greaves? Quite a lot for someone who is now likely to be a back up.

Caceres on 10:04 - Aug 22 with 966 views | ElderGrizzly | He's clearly an upgrade on Woolfenden, if we can convince him to turn down the easier life and bigger money of Moscow. Woolfeden is a good championship defender, but he's not someone we would be shouting for to sign without the ITFC connection.

They're not saying that. They're saying why would Caceres come here to take Woolfenden's place as a seat warmer.

Haven’t really replaced Tuanzebe - seen that Cacares played LW in his last game, clearly very versatile. Feels like we’re signing players that can play varied positions this window.

With squad limits, we need versatility so sounds good! | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Where did you read he was left-sided? I have read he is right-sided

Sorry, he clearly won't be. He'd fight for a place on the left with Greaves. Yet, in CD he is an upgrade on what we have and we can't carry 5 CBs. I'd say Greaves still has a higher ceiling than LW too and is 2 years younger.

He won't be coming here to sit on the bench. That point? Where as LW is starting from a position of weakness with McKenna already deciding he isn't in his first choice pairing. That was clear last season and this.

I agree, I think he'll take over from Greaves. I rate Woolfenden probably higher than most and Greaves has done nothing so far to say he's better. Just plays on the other side. I can't see the higher ceiling personally but, for the club's sake, I hope you're right. As an aside, I found Broadhead's departure tough but Woolfenden leaving will be the most difficult for me. Homegrown, the final first team player of the pre-Gamechanger era to go (I think Humphreys was in the youths?), gave it is all despite tough times under Lambert and Cook, was a bedrock of the way we played through our double.promotiom campaigns. I'm prepared for it but it won't make it any easier.

Then we have a problem, because Kipre prefers the left side of defence himself. For both West Brom and Reims, he was primarily a LCB.

Forget Woolfenden, where is Caceres going to play? Is he left-sided? Is O’Shea going to relinquish the armband and sit in the stands? Are we going 3 at the back?

What if Oshea is to move to RB, Johnson to fulham

Prefers but, at this level, I'm sure he's capable as a RCB as well, if required. McKenna seems to have been happy to go into the season with O'Shea, Woolfenden, Greaves and Burgess as our centre backs. Now the back ups actually want to play plans have had to change, and we're doing the best we can with it. If we have any chance of signing an experienced Uruguayan international we're not about to turn it down. My only question is why Premier League clubs aren't all over a potential deal.

Caceres on 10:28 - Aug 22 with 622 views | SWLondonBlue93 | I presume Wolfy pushing for a move is the trigger for this, so we have a couple of ways to go about replacing him - sign a young player (probably on loan) as a backup option, or go big on a starting centre-back who is comfortable on the left side, as an upgrade/competitor to Greaves. I know we can work on multiple deals at the same time but I imagine this is extra work that the club would rather do without.

Then we'd still need two defenders in to cover Townsend's injury and, presumably, Woolfenden's departure.

Again, where is the evidence that Caceres is a left-sided centre-back because I can only find 5 articles that are not copies of each other that say he is right-sided. McKenna is quite particular about left and right sided centre backs and also puts them in the stand rather than on the bench if not selected when we have a full squad available

I'm not claiming he is myself, what I can say with confidence is Caceres won't be replacing DOS, and I can't imagine our captain would be delighted with the prospect of shuffling across to RB.
