| Oh ffs the panic buying of fuel has started! on 09:50 - Mar 4 with 1101 views | Guthrum | Yep, saw massive queues at Sainsbury's filling station yesterday. That then causes shortages due to useage getting ahead of scheduled deliveries. Which freaks people out even further. Any actual supply problems caused by the fighting will take weeks to work through to the pumps. | |

I’m not panicking here; I filled up my 25 Jerry cans last night (I didn’t really) Lord Brown ex-head of BP was on R4 this morning saying this conflict again shows the need for the UK to diversify away from oil and gas further and become self-sufficient in renewables and nuclear, etc. If only someone had thought of it earlier . 30+ years of short-termism and pandering to anti-renewable lobbies coming back to bite us all on the arse again. Funnily enough American and some of Trump’s oil exec donors benefit from this war. Who’d have thunked it, eh?

Wait for the Reform policy announcement for making cars powered by Welsh coal.

Annoying thing is that gas prices are going to go up and then Reform will blame renewables as the issue because of our stupid electricity system.

I think one of the reasons that Lord Brown is ex-head of BP is that the shareholders didn't agree with his view that BP should play a significant role in that diversification away from oil and gas. Still, as long as everyone's portfolio is increasing in value we're all good, yeah?
| Oh ffs the panic buying of fuel has started! on 10:32 - Mar 4 with 857 views | tonybied | I went to our local Tesco yesterday, not panic buying, I add, as I only had 40 miles of diesel left. Glad I did, as it wasn't too busy then. Gives the perfect excuse for the forecourts to start piling more pennies onto the cost too, if everyone starts filling their tanks and as many Jerry cans as possible. What is wrong with people? | | | |

Oh... do I need to start panicking, or going a massive queue? I've only got 40 miles of petrol left too.

I guess that depends on how quickly you're going to be using that 40 miles of fuel!

It’s ridiculous and I’m sure encouraged by the media moguls/fuel tycoons just to create this type of reaction and loading their greasy hands and coffers even more. Costs of barrels is up but shouldn’t be noticeable till months down the line, well that’s the line they use any way when it goes down and we don’t see movement for months at the pump. It’s also 20% of the worlds supply so still another 80% available assuming trump doesn’t send navy into the straight to ward off attacks. Absolute greed created by purposeful fear mongering.

https://share.google/IQ7sva5U2 Really interesting study that got presented at LSE yesterday on the energy price spike caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine and who benefitted. "We estimate that globally, net income in publicly listed oil and gas companies alone reached US$916 billion in 2022, with the United States the biggest beneficiary with claims on US$301 billion, more than U.S. investments of US$267 billion in the low carbon economy that year. In a network of U.S. shareholdings with 252,433 nodes including privately held U.S. companies, 50 % of profits went to the wealthiest 1 % of individuals, predominantly through direct shareholdings and private company ownership. In contrast the bottom 50 % only received 1 %." emphasis added. [Post edited 4 Mar 14:28]
