| Couple of stats that I found out today 21:54 - May 14 with 1481 views | ITFC_History | There was only one 4-3 in the championship this season. (Leicester 3 Southampton 4) & only 4 of the 92 league teams haven’t played at the new Wembley since it opened in 2007 Ipswich Accrington Blackburn Colchester Also Accrington are the only team in the 92 to have never played at Wembley old or new. | | | | |
| Couple of stats that I found out today on 22:21 - May 14 with 1356 views | Bigalhunter | Pretty glad we’ve avoided Wembley over the last five seasons as I’m much happier to go up automatically and avoid play offs. As for the previous twenty odd years, we haven’t really come close a visit there, barring that one sided semi against Arsenal when Paul Jewell didn’t even attempt to give the second leg a go. We never took that Johnstone/Pizza trophy seriously in league 1, have never taken the FA or League Cup particularly seriously and spent a decade or so stagnating in the Championship. It’s still quite an extraordinary statistic though and I can’t quite fathom how the other 88 teams have somehow got there since 2001. | |

Play-offs. FA Cup semi-finals. Playing Tottenham away when they played there. Papa John's thing. In fact games at Wembley are two to a penny now. It's actually quite incredible that we've still not played there in the last twenty years. Although as you allude, it is a sign of just how rubbish we've been for much of that time.

Agree, now we've broke that awful scum record this one is the next thing that needs addressing. With a kind draw the league cup final should be attainable in a few years time?

League Cup and FA Cup double next year. You heard it here first. Actually, I’ve been to Wembley a lot of times over the years and it’s really not all that. Crowded in with development the views inside are good but the place is soul less bowl. It has none of the grandeur or magic of the old Wembley even if the latter was falling to bits and many of the views poor.

Spot on about the differences between the two Wembley stadiums. Not quite so sure about the League Cup and FA Cup double next year though!

2007. Incidentally, I was at the last competitive club game at the old Wembley (ITFC v Barnsley) and the first one at the new Wembley (Stevenage v Kidderminster).

So there were ways to tick off the destination without the glory even back then.

We went to see the Brentford v Swansea play off final during the Covid years when there was only about 10,000 in there and masks everywhere. That was more than soulless - it sucked the hope and will to live out of you

Agree re the first paragraph. As to the last one, we've had a lot of success in the last handful of years, and I'm so grateful for that. And that gratitude far outweighs everything I'm about to say. But our attitude towards cup competitions for the last couple of decades has been really disappointing. Other clubs are excited by the prospect of success in knockout competitions. Only being interested in the league is tantamount to admitting that the only thing that matters is money, which is a proposition against which fans generally unite unanimously. And given our wonderful history of success in cup competitions under Sir Bobby, it is all the more depressing that we seem to be the team in the entire pyramid who gives the fewest f**** about success in cups.
