When I was in Hospital I got talking to a chap in the opposite bed and he was telling me he was a Lego collector.

So much so he’s had a loft conversion done on his house and has all his Lego collection up there.

I am thinking of buying a fairly decent Lego Technic kit,maybe a big old Truck or F1 car.

I am not allowed to do any gardening for 3 -6 months,i can do light pruning after 1 month,not until my Sternum has heeled and it’s driving me nuts.But a lot of my garden I can cut back in March.

Thankfully I can walk and spend a fair time mooching around the village green,but you can’t walk forever can you!

Does anyone on here have any kits ?

In my loft for about 10 years there has been a EEE Lego ship. They're going for 400 odd quid nowadays.

It's finding time to do it when I'm home at the moment. But there is something therapeutic about doing it.

Thinking about it I seem to remember you talking about those Triple E cargo ships a few years back.

I have to be a bit careful as I can’t hunch over because of my Sternum,I got a couple of Airfix starter kits for Christmas and saved them for when I was going to resting up.

Still I’m 3 weeks in now,and I’m still breathing which is a good sign

Tends to be a winter thing for me as summer days means more to do in the garden or days out but once through end of autumn and weather turns I find the whole Lego or model thing quite a mental escape from work.

My neighbour has the Land Rover Model and the real thing sitting on his driveway.

I’m the same with my garden.

I’ve just bought the Lego Jaws set as it’s my favourite film of all time 👍

I’ve got several, cars, cityscapes, Empire State, I get one (or two) for the Winter months each year. Very therapeutic but they do take up space. Last year was the Titanic ( huge) and I’ve ordered the Sacrada Familia for this year.

Ah. Subbuteo. I have some original 1950s and 1960s flat pressed teams as well as the moulded from 70s, 80s and 90s.

If you pace yourself by only completing one page of the illustrated instructions at a time, that would give you a clear yardstick to assess the effect on your sternum and pain levels.

eBay has loads of old Lego models available. Some Mint in Box, usually for more than their original list price, some in an opened but VGC box for 20% less than current sets, some complete with instructions but no box for up to 50% less than comparable current sets.

If you want retro films it's worth checking out: there have been eg Back to the Future and Indiana Jones sets, and the Home Alone house in recent years.

That's the very definition of hunching over a table!

Are you artistic? Painting at a big easel, set at close to eye level, standing up, would help you keep good posture. Acrylic paint is a very good starting medium, cheaper and much more forgiving than oils!

You could put the word out and see if someone in the village could lend you an easel for the six months as you recover?

Very expensive aren't they. It was a tub of mixed blocks for a few quid when I was a kid. Everything we bought our kids too a couple of hours to put together and then that's that one done and they wanted the next one. It's a clever, if cynical financial model.
