| So are we happy with this squad and starting 11?? 12:13 - Sep 1 with 2162 views | unstableblue | So with time ticking away, Flemming looking certain and some exits expected. Are we happy with these first 11s: ———————Scherpen OShea—-Diop—-Greaves—-Davis ————Lukic—Pallacios Fatawu———-Enciso——Maeda ————-——-Flemming Or ———————Scherpen ——-OShea—-Diop—-Greaves Ouatarra——Lukic—Pallacios—-Davis —————-Enciso——Maeda ————-——-Flemming (Given Liverpools ridiculous firepower I think we’ll see the second Friday) And a bench of: Walton Furlong Kipre Ouatarra/Fatawu Nunez Florentino/Matusiwa Clarke/Philogene Egeli/McAteer Emersonn/Akpom With Mehmeti and Taylor retained as don’t think additional CB and LB are in plan, with Palmer maybe also staying. See details below: Goalkeepers: 1. Scherpen (26) 2. Walton (30) 3. Palmer - or a new 3rd keeper?? RWB/RB: U21 Ouatarra (20) 4. Furlong (30) Centre Backs: 5. O’Shea (27) 6. Diop (29) 7. Greaves (25) 8. NEW Left CB 9. Kipre (29) LWB/LB 10. Davis (26) 11. NEW LB Centre Mids 12. Lukic (29) 13. Florentino (26) 14. Matusiwa (28) 15. PALACIOS (27) 16. Nunez (26) Attacking Mids: 17. Fatawu (22) 18. Maeda (28) 19. Enciso (22) U21 Egeli (20) 20. J. Clarke (25) 21. Philogene (24) 22. McAteer (24) Strikers: 23. Flemming 24. Emersonn (22) 25. Akpom (30) | |

Fair enough pob - left sided defence does seem the weakest area. But Greaves and Davis have played very well for long periods already this season. It’s staying in shape and in focus for 90mins that need the work. These Prem teams run you ragged for 90mins. If that’s what we’ve got - crowd need to back em.

My concern is what happens if either get injured. I'm not sure about Kipre at top level or Ouattara covering LB for a large period of time. Maybe it will be the making of him but it's a huge risk.

I'm more worried about the striker situation than LB/RB cover given we have a swiss army knife in Ouattara.

I think you're being overly harsh. DOS might go into the centre rather than Kipre and Ouatarra or Furlong RB. If there are injuries there's always going to be issues with a 25 man squad, with back ups and fill ins. We've sorted our real weak spot from last time by having a strong midfield and decent back ups. Emersonn and Flemming (hopefully) a decent pairing up top and in defence we're ok (and not more) but there's going to be a limit on spending and places. On the whole wanting more than what we have is understandable but erring on the greedy.

Flemming is a great signing. He’s a quality, intelligent striker. Just what we needed. Can score a penalty too!

Agreed, but gonna be anxious until that's confirmed tbh. No disrespect to Chuba, but if Emersonn is out for any length of time we're going to be looking way off it in that area.

We have three defenders in the first XI from the season where our defence capitulated. The midfield should be stronger but fell apart on Sunday, albeit against strong opposition with their tails up. Diop and Greaves were at sixes and sevens I. The middle. It's not unreasonable to expect one more in. Goalkeeper unsurprisingly shaky at times as he's in a new division behind a new back line but shows promise. Central midfield excellent. The ten positions are good and, as long as Flemming joins, decent options up front. But I don't think I can say defence as an entirety is ok. It's a real worry.

Quite probably - but the club can't possibly be expected to replace 15 / 16 players in a single window which upgrade all the previous players they replace, especially considering the quality of midfield what we have brought in so far, and potentially up front. Not sure what people expected, but the work done is astonishing in these days of SCR limitations on a club our size.
| So are we happy with this squad and starting 11?? on 13:02 - Sep 1 with 1226 views | Parky | Happy with the starting 11, but think we need a few more upgrades in the overall squad. Injuries to Fatawu and Greaves currently means we’d likely be relying on Mcateer and Kipre, whom neither are good enough, in my opinion. | | | |
| So are we happy with this squad and starting 11?? on 13:05 - Sep 1 with 1200 views | WolfieAtTheBack | The squad is a long term work in progress, the only question for now is can the players we have get to January and keep us out of the relegation places. If we are there or there about in January we can keep on building to get us over the line. | | | |

I'm hanging on the plan being Philogene being our other RW option once he's fit. For some reason McKenna didn't like him out there, even though he'd played there for Hull, Villa and England youth.

May be quite handy to have one or both of them available for January . . .
| So are we happy with this squad and starting 11?? on 13:12 - Sep 1 with 1108 views | seblue78 | Think we could do with an additional CB personally or we're looking pretty light there. I like Kipre and don't have such a downer on him as others appear to, but his lack of pace would be a big concern in the Prem. I see Morato is going to WHU on loan. Might have been worthy of consideration. Mings a great shout now they've signed Harwood-Bellis, although obvious fitness concerns. LCB looking pretty weak without additional cover, albeit i suppose a Diop and O'Shea combo could work. Fingers crossed... [Post edited 1 Sep 13:14]

Not disputing anything we've done been a great window, Just wondering if they could have re look eased one or two earlier, Taylor mehmeti Palmer to release a few pounds to purchase one more defender, Hopefully the loans are in that department,

I think we will get exposed quite a bit with that back line.

Do you really think he has the physical attribute to play that role in the PL? On Sunday Fatawu looked to be far superior to JP in that sense. Much quicker, stronger.

Still think there might be a surprise before the deadline closes, but if not we've had a good window. 17 games until the half way stage and Jan window. Lets try to win 6 of them and we'll be in a very good position.
