| Ouattara is only 20! His rise exponential - lesson for our yoof players? 11:38 - Oct 12 with 1518 views | unstableblue | I’d forgotten just how young our Ivorian star is (he’s actually 21 soon, 22nd Oct - ancient) He already looks accomplished at Premier League level in that key right back position (only 2 games I know). GON states in his post match interview that he feels there is still work to be done with him and he’s learning. But to note he broke into Strasbourg’s reserves - in National II - really young at 16, racked some appearances over 2 seasons. Then for the 24/25 season made a breakthrough into the Strasbourg first team, playing 17 times in the league. Then last season became a regular. And then the big move to us, and he is seemingly going to nail down a starting slot in the Premier League. That’s the trajectory of real talent. Contrast that with some of our youth prospects - which seem to be Humphreys, Barbrook, Tudor Mendel, and Boniface at present? Really hope we can see an academy player break through properly soon. | |

| Ouattara is only 20! His rise exponential - lesson for our yoof players? on 14:32 - Oct 12 with 1142 views | Nutkins_Return | It's worth pointing out that young players development different rates - primarily from a physical point of view (sometimes mentality). Ouattara is so athletic that he is more than ready for men's football. I suspect decision making and refining certain touches/tactically there is some polishing up. We can't expect all our youth prospects to be ready so early. Still think we are 2-3 years minimum from getting our academy to a maturity level to produce the calibre we need. I'm not sure any of those listed are going to be prem.players but quite possibly champ and who knows. I've got high hopes for Atherton. We will start to see the fruits perhaps more once we are getting regular championship loans for our young lads. Fingers crossed. The level is good now but our required first team level has gone to a new level as well. | |

Seems a real old-style utility man who’s got potential everywhere on the pitch he pops up! What a find.

His rise exponential - lesson for our yoof players? on 14:46 - Oct 12 with 1077 views | TheMover | I genuinely thought we had blown the money when we signed him, I thought he would end up being a squad number and not get much gametime. How wrong, he looks comfortable at this level and is prepared to have a go. Good luck to him. I think Sindre also looked good when he first arrived, I remember him having a crack from outside the box and I thought he would really make his mark. Unfortunately, he appears to have had that coached out of him, maybe GON will let him have a bit of free reign when it comes to taking a shot going forwards.

Someone mentioned that Strasbourg had him down as an absolute star until some injuries held him up, it seems he might fulfil that billing here if he stays fit.

Why? I had been trying to tell people since our last promotion this was the way forward. Everyone on Forums to Podcasts kept going on and on about PL experience but it's not the be all and end all. These are the kind of players that you need to be scouting from abroad and getting in the door at a young age. Really high ceiling. Called it on here as soon as we signed him as well. See Sadiki and Diarra (same academy) that Sunderland acquired last summer.

I'd love to see much more of it in the coming years and I am sure we will.
"His move to Strasbourg’s academy seemed inevitable, where he quickly outshone peers like Habib Diarra."
Sounds like if he didn't have a couple of injuries in his teenage years he might have been playing a level above already.
