Sir Bobby Robson will receive the freedom of Ipswich when he returns to Suffolk for the 30th anniversary of the Blues' 1978 FA Cup final win on May 5th. The ceremony will take place on the balcony of the Town Hall after the winning side complete a bus tour of the town.

Ipswich Borough Council chief executive James Hehir says Robson fully deserves the honour: "Sir Bobby has been a tremendous ambassador for Ipswich and for football ever since he came to Portman Road.

"His success here in Ipswich and, later for England, proves he is a man of great stature.

"But his contribution goes beyond the world of football. Sir Bobby's health campaigns show an additional side to him.

"He has also battled against illnesses with great courage and he has earned the town's respect and affection.”

Meanwhile, one of Robson's players, striker Mich D'Avray is reported to be close to a return to coaching in his native South Africa. D'Avray, who has spent the last decade in Australia, leaving the Perth Glory in 2006, is in talks with the Mamelodi Sundowns.

Elsewhere, Galway United have sacked manager Tony Cousins just four games into the Eircom League season. Cousins and Town boss Jim Magilton are long-time friends and, after the Tribesmen spent part of their pre-season at Playford Road, the two clubs announced an exchange arrangement which would see youngsters from Town spend time with the Irish club and the Blues get first refusal on promising players emerging in the Galway squad.

Released Town midfielder or defender Ollie Fenn moved to Terryland Park in March and looks likely to be the only player involved in the accord struck between the clubs.
