![]() Thursday, 17th Jul 2008 21:54 Town carried on their winning form in Belfast with a 4-1 victory over Donegal Celtic. An own goal from David Munster put the Blues in front in the first half then after the break James Lafferty equalised, prior to Owen Garvan and Alan Quinn (2) completing the scoring. The Blues, captained again by Alan Lee, took most of the first half to get going with the home side looking more likely to score. Danny Haynes made an early exit in the 18th minute after retaliating with a kick after a poor challenge. The former England U19 international had already kicked the ball away in frustration at the award of a freekick and after the second incident the Town bench swiftly replaced him with local boy Chris Casement. Owen Garvan's lengthy run and shot had been Town's best moment until the 41st minute when the Blues went in front. Gary Roberts crossed from the left and David Munster diverted the ball into his own net. Nine minutes after the break, the home side got back on terms. James Lafferty turned Gareth McAuley inside the area and beat Shane Supple. In the 65th minute, sub Pablo Couñago created Town's second for Owen Garvan, who wore the captain's armband after the break until he handed it on to David Wright late on, the Irish youngster shooting into the corner of the net. Two minutes later, Alan Quinn scored with his first touch after coming on as a sub, again after a Couñago cross. Couñago went close to a goal himself in the 73rd minute when his 25-yard chip came off the bar. Quinn, who netted twice on Monday at Cliftonville, claimed another brace when he volleyed home in the 75th minute. Town had started to take control of the game after scoring their second goal, the determined Donegal side running out of steam against their fitter opponents. Gary Roberts was again amongst Town's best performers while Alan Quinn, now the Blues' top scorer in pre-season, was also impressive. Trialist Ben Thatcher again had little chance to show much other than tidy passing with the Town defence relatively untroubled. The Blues complete their Belfast tour with a game at Glentoran on Saturday afternoon. Town: Supple, Peters (Trotter 59), Thatcher (Wright 51), Sumulikoski (Quinn 66), McAuley (Naylor 69), Balkestein (Bruce 69), Haynes (Casement 18), Garvan (Smith 71), Lee (Couñago 46), Walters (Rhodes 71), Roberts.
