Healy Linked With Newcastle, Town and Watford Monday, 7th Sep 2009 08:43
Town are one of a number of Championship clubs said to be interested in signing Sunderland’s David Healy on loan. Newcastle are reportedly leading the chase with Watford and the Blues also claimed to want the Northern Irish international.
Roy Keane took Healy from Fulham to the Stadium of Light during his time as manager of the Black Cats, but the 30-year-old has never appeared to be amongst the players the Town boss wants to bring to his new club, despite one or two newspaper links over the summer. From tomorrow, Football League sides can sign players on emergency loans for up to 93 days.
Meanwhile, former striker Jordan Rhodes’s father Andy, Town’s former keeper-coach, has confirmed his son didn’t want to leave the club in the summer: “There is nothing Jordan wanted more than to be given a chance with Ipswich Town.
“He came back from talks with Huddersfield and trained at Playford Road the next day. Jordan's move was not a goer as far as the lad was concerned.
“But the following day the transfer was completed. He is happy where he is, but he wanted to stay with Ipswich.”
Rhodes, who has scored seven goals in seven starts and one sub appearance for the Terriers, cost his new club a fee which will eventually rise to £850,000.

Dont understand the quote from Rhodes dad. If the boy did not want to go then why did he sign for Huddersfield. If he had stayed would he have got a game, would he have been ahead of Wickham. Would he have stopped Wickhams development.

What a joke im still pissed at selling Rhoades! RK said he had sleepless nights before he decided to sell. Surely we should only sell a player we are 100% sure we dont want at the club???? If I was manager and had doubts about selling, my response would be simple - I WOULDNT SELL!

get over the sale of jordon, he has gone and we need to look forward. we have a manager that will make uncomfortable decisions and will fall by his sword if we dont get promotion in 2 years. he sold him because he didnt feel he would get a chance in the team this year and hinder development of wickham and his own development as keane said jordon still has a lot to learn, just remember he his going well in a lower league.

Jordan Rhodes maybe scoring goals for 'Uddersfield, but people should note it is at league ONE level. Maybe long term RK is of the opinion that Wickham is the better player. We've been here before, when Sir Bobby had to make a similar decision between Alan Brazil and player just slightly ahead of him..(the one who crossed the ball at Wembley for our FA Cup winning goal but I cant remember his name right now)

With one breath Daddy says he doesn't get involved, yet he is keen to put in his twopenneth again. I though press gangs and slavery had ended, obvioulsy not, his boy was forced to sign a contract at Huddersfield. Time to move on Mr Rhodes - oh woops - you had to do that when the last manager was at Portman Road.

I think RK just saw more potential with Wickham. He's got another 3 years of age for potential development on Rhodes and you can't really afford (time and effort-wise) to have two young strikers who are learning the game. What I've seen of Wickham I haven't been overly impressed, but I guess I have to bear in mind the lad is still only 16. Strangely, he's looked better in games he's started than games he's come on as a sub. His main problem is his attitude I think, he seems to get frustrated with officials' decisions etc and has a little bit of a temper...typical teenager I guess - whereas Rhodes seemed a little more timid, which could be seen as a negative thing maybe.

I rarely write negative posts but my god please can we not sign Healy. He's no good at club level!

Healy can go **** himself. He's the most arrogent lazy footballer. However in complete contradiction, if roy could get the best out of him he would possibly be a help.

Watched Rhodes play at MK Dons On Sat he is reasonable at that level but know better, if we can't do better than him I will worry, Mk Dons have better strickers than him, Gary Roberts was half decent but that's all

In all fairness to Healy, have a look at what's happened to him in his time at Sunderland. Keane signed him and streight away he picks up a lengthy injury. In that time, they also sign Kenweyn Jones. Then Keane leaves Sunderland and Sbragia starts playing crappy negative football with 1 striker up front, namely Jones. This season they have Jones and (god) Bent. Hows he gonna get into the starting 11 with those 2 involved? I say bring him in on loan as we don't pay all his wages and if it dosen't work out send him back in january. Then again, this is paper talk. No one even wants him probably!!!

If this is trues about Healy I will be the happiest person! He was my favourite even last year when Jim was trying to get him. He is good enough to score 20+ for our account! I just don't believe we will get him... Even on loan... Fingers crossed!!!

david healy is an average player, probably not even better than stead, counago, priskin..... don't waste the money, if RK really want to improve the overall team play and balance in strength, get in a solid CB and premiership level striker, but not david healy.... it'll just be a waste of time and money.... quite disappointed that RK so far, has only manage to convince players who worked with him before (man u, sunderland) to join the team, but unable to move other quality players to do so.... we probably over-rated he's "charm"...

unsure about Andy Rhodes comments. If Jordan didnt want to go why did he sign? Sounds like some of the facts are missing there! As for David Healy, his record for N.Ireland is excellent but his recent club forms is patchy to say the least. As other posters have mentioned is he any better than Priskin, Pablo etc? If not then no thanks
