Birmingham's McSheffrey Linked
Birmingham's McSheffrey Linked
Thursday, 19th Nov 2009 08:56

Town are one of a number of clubs claimed to have been chasing out-of-favour Birmingham winger Gary McSheffrey. The Blues, Sheffield United and Coventry are all said to have made enquiries but the 27-year-old is keen to stay at St Andrew’s and fight for his place.

McSheffrey said: "I want to play more but it's a better situation than I was in back in August when they were looking to offload me.

"I still feel I have a lot to offer. It's getting that chance. Things can change so I'm sure if I started doing the business then maybe I wouldn't be up for sale.

"I haven't had a chat with the manager, I've just put my head down and worked hard."

Elsewhere, the Portuguese press is again linking Town with Benfica central defender Miguel Vítor. The Blues, Sunderland and Hull City are all said to want to take the Portugal U21 international on loan in January, although they face opposition from Atletico Madrid. Portsmouth and Birmingham were also previously linked.

Meanwhile, the News of the World’s website claims “dressing room sources” have slammed Roy Keane’s management of the club.

I rate this guy. Englands under 18 captain. Ran the show when his side beat Newcastle 6-nil about 4 years ago.

All these links with players are a joke. Just the press making 2 + 2 = 5.
To improve our squad, we need more cover on the left (full back & midfield) and strikers that know where the net is.

I be dubious about taking him - in the unlikely event that he'd be interested - and assuming that we are (and that this is not just another press-inspired rumour).

He says that he doesn't want to leave - which means he doesn't want to drop down to a club in a worse position

I bet he'd be happy to leave if Chelsea or Man Utd were after him!

I rate McSheffrey but question whether we need him .... as Muhrensleftfoot suggests, its probably all a load of press bollards!

What is slightly worrying is that NOTW story. Sounds like the usual Keane-bashing from the tabloids and these mysterious 'sources' who don't have the balls to come out and say who they are. But then again, all very plausible.

I hope for all our sakes (and that of the club) that this story is just malicious tittle tattle and has no truth in it.

Cue the Keane-haters .....

Re the NOTW story - it could be 'true' in that some 'sources' may have said some of those things - and they are quite plausable comments on RK's style and history as a manager.

But, do we really care what these 'sources' think? If they are from within the club and if they are prepared to blab to the press without revealing who they are (too scared of nasty Mr Keane are they?), then I would ignore them. If they are not from within the club, then they aren't really valid as 'sources' are they?

Lets face it every man and his dad will get linked to us a) because of Keano and b) because we have money. This time of year is quiet for papers so they run stories just to fill columns. The problem being is it gets to this site then we have arguments all over the shop (i'm not immune!!) but it's quite sad really as other fans must look at the comments and think united we are not. Gary Mcsheffrey?? really?? someone's agent is looking for an extra xmas bonus methinks...

Good player who scores and creates goals in this league , i would welcome him to Ipswich ,for one we dont know when Civelli will be back ,what player will come back and how long it will take him to get up to speed probably the remainder of the season . The left side has been a problem for a long time now he would only help ,if there is any truth in it ?

Source 2 in the NOTW story has to be John Stead!... good luck in training this week mate!

All sounds plausible, but Im glad the club have stuck by RK. I must admit though, I would love to see Burley given another crack of the whip!!

nope Dobbie, just pointing out some REAL DEALS ,bloody international breaks ,i get bored sh;tless .HOWEVER, i think i will sample some ale shortly.

Surco72 added 10:40 - Nov 19
Marshall source 2 may not be Stead he wasnt there tht long under Keane could be Leadbitter or Edwards ? Edwards said when signing that Keanes management style didnt suit everyone but he was ok with it ?
If there is any truth in this article which to me makes a lot of sense of how the season has gone so far it is worrying ,and not all of the stories from old players and new players can be made up surely ?

Got to agree Dingus, not about the ale,LOL,i hate international breaks.
Counting the minutes till Saturday and hopefully 3 points.
As for Mcsheffrey, good player, but probably just speculation, so i am not getting overly excited.
Bet you all Keane kicked his dogs last nite after Eires result!

Marshalls_Mullet added 10:45 - Nov 19
Surco72, I agree it could be CE or GL, but I dont think they would be so keen to speak out as they are both regular starters and new to the club. Surely JS is most likely to have reason and inclination to speak out.

McSheffrey won't come here. If he leaves Birmingham he'll stay in the midlands. Good player though.

The news of the screws article sounds totally believable. Loughlan reminds me of Mike Bassett's assistant.

Keane has really got to start picking a settled side and perhaps in training teach his players the basics of passing the ball, preferably to a team mate.

Keane has to go!

AJblue added 11:25 - Nov 19
What all the way to Birmingham to sign a player, you mean CGS?
0

FormerlyCGS added 11:30 - Nov 19
Na, that would be nice, but our current record stands at linked to 1000 players, 750 of them good players and sign 1/2 from the eire league!

Bet our next signing comes from bohemians and for a position we do not need!

0

AJblue added 11:34 - Nov 19
I see your frustration, i think, but the trouble is, just because we are linked with 1000 players, how many of them are really a valid option.
If 750 of them are good players, probably 749 of them are looking to improve their current contract at their present club, and thier "representative" links them with us 'cos we have money.
Quite frankly i could link us with Ronaldo, but i dont think he will be on his way here any time soon!

Oh and by the way, i have told you a million times to stop exagerating!!!
