Lee-Barrett Contract Talks Next Week
Lee-Barrett Contract Talks Next Week
Saturday, 16th Jan 2010 09:30

Town boss Roy Keane has confirmed that Arran Lee-Barrett’s agent is due at Portman Road for talks regarding the goalkeeper's new deal next week. Lee-Barrett’s short-term contract is up on January 21st.

Keane said: “I spoke to Arran this week. He’s due for talks early next week with his agent.

"We’re very pleased with Arran and obviously we’d like him to stay. He’s going to fight his corner and that’s what I expect.

“Arran’s done very, very well for us, but you have to remember that we’ve done well for Arran. Four or five months ago he was in no man’s land.

“It’s worked for both parties and I wouldn’t expect any problems with his contract, there might be an issue with the length of it, but we’ll get that sorted. The boy’s done well and I like to reward players who have done well for me.”

Local boy Lee-Barrett, who was released by the Town academy at 16, is set to continue in goal this afternoon when the Blues face his old club Coventry at Portman Road.

Good lad... He has been excellent for us and I hope he keeps his place ahead of Murphy for the time being because he deserves it! I think it may be more bad news for R. Wright though I am sorry to say.

Good luck to him. Even if long term he ends up as number 3 his performances since he came in warrant a contract.

I hope he gets a deal that his performances warrant. He came in at a tricky time and has performed consistently well. I think he is one of those keepers that gets the job done with little fuss or thrills, really impressed me with his assured display against Leicester last week.

I have seen many comments about Keane's bad man management style. I think these critics should take another look. Jaime Peters has just signed a three year deal. Roy Keane demands hard work, dedication and sets high standards. He publicly backs those players that give him this. He is prepared to give people chances and it is up to them to take it.

Arran has grabbed his chance literally with two hands and I don't think any Town fan will disagree that this lad deserves a contract. He may at the end of the day struggle to outshine some of the other keepers at this level but has certainly proved he is more than a decent pair of hands to have on the bench. If every player wearing a Town shirt adopts a similar attitude then this club is in for some good times ahead. Of course it is Roy's job to develop this attitude and those that don't respond will be weeded out.

Sign him up Gaffer, can't see it being anything other than a done deal!! Would also like to agree with what budgieplucker said, Jamie Peters at the end of the last season looked more likely to move on with Jim at the helm but then Keane comes in Jamie impresses in the final two games of the season and has well established himself as a first team play and I would surprised if he didn't receive most improved player of the season. Another town favourite who has benefited from Keane's management style is Garvan who seems to have more passion for the game and club than ever in some great performances lately and tackling hard to boot - good lad. Keep it going lads we're on the up and can finish the season in a positive position at the the right end of the table. I'm not discounting making the playoffs, infact if anything I can see us if we continue to win and draw most games we could scrape 6th place which I'd be delighted at. In the past so many clubs that scrape into 6th plcae on the last day of the season go onto win the playoffs. I'm sure most of you will remember the season we were last up for promotion only to get pipped to the post by Wigan and dropping into 3rd to then get beat by West Ham in the playoffs and who then went on to won promotion - its all about momentum!!

tractorboyupnorth - I remember that day, Wigan beat Reading, we drew with Brighton I think, & Matt Richards had a shocker in the home leg against West Ham. Didn't Magilton save the day at West Ham though with a free kick? TWTD! Agree with you & budgieplucker too - Keane is doing a brilliant job. Whilst some Ipswich fans disagree, a lot of friends who support other teams can clearly see Keane is doing well & really turning this club around. All players have to do is work hard. A-L-B deserves at least another year, really pleased he has done such a tidy job. Here's to another one today! COYB

18-month contract would be right, I would have thought.

ALB deserves a contract. His attitude has been first class and that save last week ... brilliant. Odd how few saves he has had to do.
The defence was already better before he came into side, but the back 4 have remained tight. Is that a coincidence or is it that they have more confidence in ALB or ALB is a better communicator?

I totally agree with the other comments. Give ALB a contract, it really makes a difference for the back four if they know the keeper is decent. In my opinion Richard Wright has struggled and his performances have been well below par. It's no coincidence that RK was looking around for keepers at the start of the season. In many ways Wrighty's injury will be a blessing in disguise. Well done Arran keep it up!

For me, a good keeper has to do the simple things well as this will inspire confidence in his defenders. Claiming crosses and commanding his penalty area are absolute necessities. All professional keepers at his level will pull off remarkable saves but some are prone to making fundamental areas. Nobody can say that earlier in the season Richard Wright had not made some fine saves, indeed he kept the score from being embarassing on more than one occasion. However, fumbled (simple) catches in at least three games were very costly both in terms of points and morale. Begovic steadied that ship and since he has come in, Lee-Barrett has generally looked solid with sound handling and has started to marshall his defence with a very vocal approach. His shot stopping, when required , has been OK and the boy is now number one at PR in my opinion. Murphy will do well to dislodge him for the moment and as arc has stated, an 18 month contract would be what the young man deserves.

That should be "fundamental errors" not "areas"!!!!!

What a rare situation! I don't think a single town fan could disagree with ALB getting a new deal at least til the end of the season. Delighted for him, he has really come into his own of late with outstanding saves I recall against QPR, Leicester and Coventry and most importantly, winning points for us. Well done!
