Keane and Coleman Disagree on Time Added On
Keane and Coleman Disagree on Time Added On
Saturday, 16th Jan 2010 19:34

Town boss Roy Keane had no argument with referee Michael Oliver adding on time beyond the initial four minutes signalled as both teams netted in a dramatic close to the Blues' 3-2 victory over Coventry. Sky Blues manager Chris Coleman strongly felt that the whistle ought to have gone before his side had scored their equaliser.

Keane said: "I had no issue with the time being added on. When they say four minutes it's a minimum of four minutes.

"Even if the game had finished 2-2 I wouldn't have been complaining about the officials - far from it.

"I've said it before but you play to the whistle. I've been taught that since I was six or seven years of age. Anyone who's going to complain about that is out of order."

The Blues boss thought his side eventually got what they deserved despite their injury time wobble: "We had the game won, threw it away and then managed to nick it at the end.

"Ultimately, though we got what we deserved. We played some decent stuff and Pablo's finish at the end was worthy of winning most games.

"It was a good pass by Connor and a brilliant finish by Pablo and you can see what it meant to everyone, the players, the staff and obviously the fans.

"We've not had too many highs. We've won games but we've had setbacks and it was a hammer blow with them scoring right at the end. You think we have seen the end of those days of conceding goals right at the end, so to come back and win it has given everyone a big boost at the club.

"We were sluggish for their opening goal but I thought we deserved to be ahead at 2-1. Then we stopped keeping the ball for some reason.

"We still had chances and Pablo was very unlucky with the one stopped on the line. As much as the goals we gave away were bad, the goals we did score were good goals and we'll take a lot of satisfaction from that."

Coventry boss Coleman hit out at referee Michael Oliver’s time-keeping: "Let's get it right. There shouldn't have been enough time for us to get the equaliser.

"The referee's assistant put four minutes up. We scored in the sixth added minute, so where have the extra two come from?

"We then ended up playing over seven minutes. There's no consistency. Just because he's made a mistake in letting us get an equaliser, he didn't need to make another one to even it up. Two wrongs don't make a right.

"It's bizarre and I'm disappointed because we've scored three late goals in a week. I'll get into trouble for walking onto the pitch and airing my views, because you're not allowed to do that any more.

"But what's going to be done about an extra three minutes? I can't catch my breath. If I'm called up in front of the FA then good, because I wouldn't mind a little chat with them."

Utterly delighted!! COYB!

Inquisition avoided, and frankly it would have been unnecessarily harsh. We're still in need of a couple of top class additions to the squad, and overall fitness.

The reason we start to hoof is that the players are out of puff and stop making options for each other. Its a tough balance in the Championship of Bulk v Stamina. Athletes are what we need, Cleggy will appreciate that.

Four minutes added time. Ref screwed up in permitting their equaliser. Our winner was therefore some kind of justice. Coleman
ergo a hypocrit.

Delighted with the win and the character of the side is really starting to show. To come back from the early set back and to pull the rabbit out of the hat at the death says a great deal about the spirit that Keane is engendering and that we are no longer a soft touch. Three quality goals, especialy the second for which it was good to see midfielders (plural!!) getting into the box. The added time business - Keane should be used to that from his Man U days - Sir Alex regularly seems to get a minute or two more than most reckon is fair. Onwards and upwards - almost starting to look at the clubs above us as much as the results of those below us! 10 points off the play-offs with 19 games to go, not impossible imo!

Justice done as the arrogant Westwood seemed to take ages over his goal kicks
and very little time was added on at half time. Is Coleman moaning about the antics of that clown Morrison. The Referee (who before the game I said was good
was poor) should at least have cautioned Morrision for his on the field antics and then that horrible tackle should have been a second yellow at least and a red.
Pablo prove me wrong and lets see some all bustling action from you over the next few weeks you can be such a good player.

Sounds like it was a rollercoaster of a game to be at!

Believe it or not watching the results come through on soccer saturday was a bitty brown stripe in the pants time! By 4.50pm at 2-1 no full time result and i was thinking about Sheff Utd, Donny, Watford etc. About 4.55pmish nothing yet as the classifieds were being read out then on the vidiprinter 'GOAL' 2-2. Richard bloomin Wood. Gutted. Then on the scoreboard on the top right hand side of the screen it said 3-2 Town but nothing on the vidiprinter to confirm it for what seemed like another five mins, why is sky doing this go me, don't put up 3-2 by mistake if there is no goal! Then 'GOAL'. C'mon you blues! I can only assume that there was a massive chorus of ole ole ole ole.....

Delighted!

Mr. Coleman justice was done and you know it.

Message also for Morrison, don't make silly gangster gestures until the result is in the bag..

Orkneyblue... we had it on thge PA system!! Went on for ages!
He would not be complaining if he had got the draw, no way would he have said it was a bad decision, however the same may be said for Keane but he is right, I've been taught to play to the whistle, at every level one of the most important rules, Connor Wickham got it wrong today for example by thinking he was offside!
Fantastic game, the players, especially Leadbitter and Rosenior showed what it meant to them, I like the passion in those two. I hope Rosenior is signed on in the summer however he was rather frustrating in the first half not taking on the full back!
Morrison should've been sent off, very lucky to be on the pitch! This could be contention for game of the season even if the football was great!

This is why I love football! The disappointment and frustration at their eaqualiser one minute and then pure elation at us netting the winner which seemed impossible at that stage! We deserved to win today and for once, things went our way - in the end! Town seem to me to be playing with more grit and determination. Hopefully they can carry this high into the game next. Come on you Tractor Boys!

Regardless of the rights and wrongs of the time added on, the lads have shown brilliant character today to come back with a late goal. I was on my knees at 2-2 so I can only imagine how they felt. Top effort! 10 points off the play-offs!!!!

Great win & fully deserved! Coventry wasted time from the minute they scored and got what they deserved. here's to an away win at St. Mary's next weekend.

Chris Coleman was decent enough to admit the game should have been over before they scored the equaliser - the referee was an absolute joke from start to finish - where do they get some of these people from ?
When I refereed at local level, you would have been crucified for such decisions that were made today 'and this is the PROFESSIONAL game'.

Grant Leadbitter is GOD..................

ONe of the best signings this club has ever had............

And at least Keane has the nuts to admit when he makes a crap signing

KEANE IS THE MAN - Our team looked quality well and truly getting the best out of these lads, it was gusty, high tempo and workrates were awesome.

The thing is that none of us care if it was 7 minutes either way, we follow our teams without any inconsistency in our criticisms, this week we get the extra time bonus and we agree with the officials, in previous weeks other teams get it and we disagree. All fans do this, it's a way of life. Don't moan about it Coleman, he actually said himself they've scored three late winners in previous games!

Agree the referee was disappointing. Coleman is clutching at straws though 'Tow wrongs don't make a right' - hypicritical. Essentiall he's saying 'yeah we scored, it was a mistake by the ref but that'sokay' then going on to moan about our goal. Well we were the better side and deserved it. 2-1 would have been the right result though.

It sounds like it was quite a finish. It was almost 1am here and when the injury time subs came on I let myself fall asleep thinking it was over. I then woke up 5hrs later, checked my emails and had a 'wha.....??' moment.

The Truth-I totally agree with you. Leadbitter's work rate, skill on the ball, leadership and will to win not bettered by anyone in the division. He is simpily awesome.

Then again, so is Colback...

I don't think there were 7 minutes. With one sub and two goals it was in order to add 1.5 mins to the original 4. We scored within 5.5 mins.

Pablo's quality showed with his goal. Would be nice to see more of him in future?
