Keane Delighted With Murphy and O'Connor
Keane Delighted With Murphy and O'Connor
Saturday, 20th Feb 2010 22:18

Town manager Roy Keane was delighted with debutant keeper Brian Murphy and left-back Shane O’Connor (pictured), who was making his first league appearance for the Blues, during the 1-0 victory at Sheffield Wednesday.

Keane told the club site: "Brian didn't have too much to do but he made a couple of good saves and he looked composed.

"Good goalkeepers often don't have a lot to do because they get the players in front of them organised and he can be pleased with himself.

"Shane can be happy with his performance as well. He was excellent for us. He probably would have made his [league] debut for us earlier but he had a knee injury that put him out for a while.

"He's had a good upbringing at Liverpool. You can tell that by the way he wasn't flustered when under pressure on the ball.

"It didn't work out for him there but that happens. You can get lost at big clubs. We've given him a year and he's learning all the time. He's a popular lad with the other players as well."

O’Connor’s only previous game for the Town first team was the Carling Cup tie at Shrewsbury earlier in the season, when he came on as a half-time sub, a match coincidentally refereed by today’s official Mick Russell.

Great result lads especially following Peterboro. Stick with the team for Scunthorpe Keano.

How many fans did we take today by the way?

We took somewhere in the region of 1000-1500 I would say from the look of the crowd.

Great support again, and a result to match. Wasn't the pretiest of games but 3 points is all that matters.

Bring on Tuesday.

Well a win agaiinst Sunthorpre will give us three wins our of the four consecutive away matches which I guess we'd have settled for (just that wouldn't have expected that capitulation at Peterborough...)
Results went well for us too

Well done fellas. A well fought, ground out result.

Maybe the horror show against Peterborough could be a blessing in disguise and give the players and RK the kick up the back side they deserve.

Scunthorpe will be interesting, there was a big gap in between beating QPR and then taking on Peterborough, maybe the quick consecutive games can mean we can build up momentum and take the confidence into tuesday.

What will also be interesting is the keane boo boys. Watch them all stay silent and if we lose on Tuesday (which I don't believe we will as lessons will be learned from Peterborough) they come out in force.

I just want this season to be over, survive and then push on next season.

A much needed victory, I have to say after Tuesday's debacle I thought the writing was on the wall. Is it just me or was a distinct difference today the fact that until 90 mins in when he was just trying to kill the game and he brought Connor on that Keane left his starting 11 on the pitch. I am not against substitutions but Keane seems to have the Jose Mourinho's about him and want to make 3 at once. Only two slight differences, 1) He is not Jose Mourinho 2) He does not have three world class internationals to bring on! I am still a Keane fan, in the games I have seen the blues this year, I have struggled to comprehend how we are where we are, yes the table does not lie and the first few games were truly awful (crystal palace and newcastle at home were an embarrassment), however, to me we have looked far more solid in defence and midfield then we ever did under JM. Perhaps a couple more hard fought wins may allow the players to release the shackles a bit. I still sit watching waiting for the inevitable mistake, 89 minutes great , 1 mistake goal to them (usually in the last 10 mins) and I was just begging for the whistle yesterday despite looking comfortable.
I hated Keane as a player, but the 'old fashioned' values he wants from his players have a touch of the Brian Clough's about them, who I am sure was a big influence. He did not do too bad in the end......

Amazing what a win will do and another on tuesday will take up up 5 places. For the record since the end of October when we hadn't won a match our record is,

HOME Won 4 Drawn 4 Lost 0 AWAY Won 3 Drawn 3 Lost 3.

I think that after the win against Derby too many people expected us to win every game.

Well done boys...another 3 points this tuesday, and our position will look heaps better.

Was Rosenior left out because of injury?

cbower added 09:52 - Feb 21
The decision to leave Rosenior out seemed strange to me if he wasn't injured. Thought he was reasonable on Tuesday and the match report said he didn't even travel. I like David Wright but prefer Rosenior at right back. Nevertheless, the introduction of O'Connor was a brave one and let's hope he stays in for Scunny on Tuesday. Got to feel a little for Lee-Barrett. He has done a reasonable job for us since coming in and is a good shot stopper but he does not convince me in dominating the six yard box, let alone the penalty area (a bit like Wright?) Everyone knows that Edwards has some quality but he has not shown much until yesterday. Hopefully this is the start of a good spell for him. 3 points make things look so much better! The results sequence highlighted by Gazelle have brought 28 points from 17 games - 20 points from the final 15 would see us safe for certain. Still a poor season but stay positive and get as many as we can there on Tuesday.

Despite the three points I'm amazed that the moaners havent found something to whinge about, its refreshing to see comments from actual fans. Keep the faith with Keano and his Tractor Bhoys!

Good result to have bounced back from such humiliation against Peterbourgh. Hopefully we can get some more wins going and climb the table as it's quite tight. Glad these two did well, hopefully they'll get a run in the side now. Lee-Barret did well mostly for us but was maybe slightly out of his depth but still he's a useful back up and I would like to see his services retained for a while yet.

I am gutted that we got three points yesterday, and what's worse other results went out way? I fear that relegation will be the only way that we can get of this clown. I'd rather be in Div.1 WITHOUT Keane than in the Premier League (or even the Champions League) with him! This bloke has completely ruined my Saturday afternoons!

Well WadzillaBhoy you no longer need to be amazed - PettaThat has just obliged with an incredible opening statement - "I am gutted we got three points yesterday". That's the spirit of the true fan.........isn't it?????

Get real and support your club regardless of who the manager is!

WadzillaBhoy 'comments from actual fans'. I see your one of those 'fans' who can't see the difference between posting on here about good and bad points and being a fan just like Brockleyblueboy who doesn't know the difference either. Constantly posting positive when there are alot of negative points which you decide to ignore does not make you more of a fan than those who have posted about good and bad points. I'm no Keane hater, I want any Town Manager to do well, the fact is this one hasn't! If he can turn it around then he should keep his job, if he can't (which based on this season so far he can't) then he should go. The prime concern is ITFC (not RK) and making sure that that they 1. stay up this year and 2. improve next to be pushing in the playoffs. I'm sure that with 8million spent (then farmed alot out) we ALL expected to be at least pushing for the playoffs!
Yes Town won yesterday and I'm sure all posters on here (except the odd Scum poster) are pleased about as we realise we were desperate for 3 points. Did you see the game, as it wasn't good? The result was good in that we got 3 points but the game wasn't.
Good to see Murphy in goal and a LB played in as a LB. They both performed well.

if petta wan'ts to slag the team and RK off then he should and watch someone else we don't need fans like him at our club with that attitude i would support the town whether in the championship prem or any other league so c'mon you blueboys win on tuesday and that will shut this moron up.

Totally agree with this. Both looked very assured. Murphy is a better keepr than ALB - although he also had a few good games for us. O'Conner surprised me. Another good RK signing?

I also agree that 'fans' (I use that word very loosely) who hope we lose and get relegated are not welcome at PR. There is one thing stating an opinion about Roy and the team - it is totally another hoping we lose and get relegated. I am sure the majority who are not hapy with Roy would agree with that?

Shane O'Connor played the best at left back then i have seen this season and Brian Murphy good shot stopper but not so good with his kicks but never mind good result yesterday and my first away win this season :P after about 5 or 6 lol

Brockley: just thought I'd post seeing you as suggested those thinking that Keane isn't God's gift to management would stay quiet.

By all accounts Sheff Wed were truly abysmal today (Dean Windass described it as the worst game he'd ever seen) and we scraped 1-0.

So, while I welcome the result (of course) I hardly think it proves any of those doubting Keane's ability wrong.

Everything said in the heat of the Peterborough performance still stands today, it's just that relegation looks a little further away fortunately.
