Wickham: I've No Intention of Leaving Town
Wickham: I've No Intention of Leaving Town
Friday, 4th Jun 2010 12:33

Striker Connor Wickham says he has no intention of leaving the Blues, despite intense speculation regarding his future in recent weeks, particularly since he played a starring role as England won the European U17s Championships.

Wickham says leaving Portman Road isn’t even a consideration at this stage of his career: "Ipswich is the only thing on my mind, I've got no intention of moving elsewhere.

"I've got a good head on my shoulders, so it's not going to make me get big-time or anything like that."

The Hereford-born frontman, who admits that seeing claims of a £10 million price tag being placed on his head is “an experience”, says he will be looking to emulate his heroes in the senior national side in the years to come: "In five years time I'll hopefully be playing week-in, week-out and playing for the England senior team in the World Cup.

"But I've just got to keep my feet on the ground and I've got the right people around like my Mum, Dad and little brother. “I'm just grateful I've had the opportunity to play and I've taken it with both hands."

An interview with Wickham can be found on the BBC website here.

I hope that the few people who put bad comments on here last season regarding Connor are suitably shamed.

As such a level headed lad, I don't think they would have affected him anyway.

He will be noticed next season without doubt.

goo dboy conner unforchantly unless you end up at man u you have no chance of playing in the world cup for england, because its simple , marcus stewart leading english goal scorer in the prem didnt get a sniff, darren bent last world cup top english goal scorer didnt get a sniff, this year second top goal scorer didnt get sniff, they would rather play old has beens like hesky who dont even know ere the net is, its about time our national squad should start looking at the future rather than behind as it always seems to do, and buy the way still recon rus osman was right i would have taken conner than hesky as they same last time round they took unfit players and a youngster.

and then leave him at home this time round my god why are we paying these big wages for national mangers to make stupid decisions like that, if a midfield cant adapt to different striker roles then they shouldnt be playing either in my mind.

just hope itfc can sort the midfield and get a good partner for conner then hopefully we will be fireing on all cylinders rather than half of them lol

@ hogster1970

I know this forum isn't intended as a place to nit-pick, but holy cow, where did you learn to spell?

You write: "conner", "unforchantly", "recon", "dont" and "cant" to name a few examples. And seriously bud, use those puntuation keys on that fine keyboard of yours. They're there for a reason. I suppose I'm the muppet for wading through the verbal diarrhea you up-chucked in the Add your comment box, but do us all a favour would you? Either learn to write English as God intended this fine language to be used or don't post.

And no, I'm not a Budgie.

@ Moderators - I know, I know. I'll behave I promise, but it's either this post or I press the Report A Bus button. Thanks.

UrbanAchiever - it's "punctuation" not "puntuation" if we are being pedantic!

Moots_Ranuva added 14:37 - Jun 4
What's "puntuation"?

cbower, Moots_Ranuva

Curse the both of you. May a plague descend on your season tickets and render them useless!

correcting peoples grammar and spelling doesn't make you look cool.

and then, you go and make a spelling mistake in the paragraph you've written to complain about someone else's spelling mistakes, whilst having the audacity to use the user name 'UrbanAchiever'.

silly boy ;)

RE-SIGN Jordan Rhodes to partner upfront, or Thierry Henry, he'd do well at Championship level.

An old head on young shoulders it would seem - that'll ground him for a good career, a fair proportion of which hopefully we'll see at Ipswich...

That is a good point. At Ipswich, he gets to play competitive, first-team football most weeks, at only one level down from facing the top clubs in the country. Therefore he continues to improve, build confidence and can get into a run of good form, scoring goals.

If he went to one of said 'top clubs', he'd get lots of training, maybe play for the reserves. But full-time Premiership competition? Probably not, due to the sheer size of their squads and the stuffing with expensive 'big stars', if nothing else.

Play lots at Ipswich or play occasionally elsewhere - not a hard choice, if money's not his sole object (and he doesn't speak like it is - sounds very level-headed).

Good on you Connor - look forward to seeing you score more goals for ITFC next season!
