Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce is understood to have monitored Town defender Tommy Smith’s progress during the World Cup with New Zealand. Smith played alongside Rovers centre-half Ryan Nelsen in South Africa as the All Whites achieved three draws, including a famous 1-1 with Italy.
The New Zealand skipper is believed to have recommended the Macclesfield-born man to his club manager.
Sheepshanks is said to want a detailed review of England’s disastrous World Cup campaign before any decision is made on Capello’s future.
Elsewhere, former Town loanee Jay McEveley is reported to be in talks with Barnsley after being released by Derby. The Scotland international was linked with a return to the Blues earlier in the summer.

I could see Civelli or Edwards playing in the hole, both have the ability to run at defenders, find a pass and score the odd goal (though either has yet to show it!)
So the most cheering news is that Jay 'not at all' (Mc)Clever(ley) is in talks with Barnsley. Lets hope that if they fall through he stays up in the north and doesn't venture south and east. He really was rubbish... And no doubt remains so. He was one of my most disliked Town players since the full back whose name I can't remember who went to Leicester to get more money, despite my nan possessing more talent.
Chris Makin you are looking for jonnysuave! Wasnt he out for about 2 years, he just about gets himself fit and then sods off to Leicester-what a w*nker!
Yeah Steve, Ambrose is a good shout! Whittingham is 26, Elliott 32, but as I said still got pace in him left, we could see that in the Premier League... But Ambrose is a good shout too... Anyway, since I'm into scouting a bit, I don't know how much you look outside the Championship but players from WC that would be perfect are Rodrigo Millar of Chile and Juraj Kucka of Slovakia. I would LOVE to see them in the Town shirt doesn't matter which formation we go for... Great players, and can be brought in for some very very good prices... Especially Millar... I love his play :)
Looks an awesome player and very accomplished on the ball, could definitely be the player to play in the hole formation, sign him up Keano and sign itfcserbia up as a scout right now. Nice work :)
thanks Steve... rubbish quality of video though enough to see what i'm talking about... fantastic on the ball, going forward, has a vision... in one word - he knows what he wants before he's got the ball, the most important for any midfielder... and also to be said - he's rated (at least before the WC he was) well below 1 mil.
I think any team lineups including Stead or Counago are way wide of the mark considering that both are on the magic 8 that the club are touting around the leagues as not wanted. I can't see either being heavily involved next year. The only player on the list who may get another look is Martin, since he's on a very good wage and a 4 year contract and oneone will pay him anywhere near what we are, so you may as well use him.... I think both Stead and Counago were given their chances last year and just didn't perform. Sad in Counago's case as like many I love the little latino, but he just doesn't have the pace to cope with the current Championship.
Paper Talk, utter crud. Tommy did well, as did New Zealand. Why would a Prem Team want Tommy when he's only set to push for a place in the Town Back 4? It's not like we've been water tight, and Tommy hardly had a start last season!
