Striker Connor Wickham has been handed the number nine shirt for the 2010/11 season. The 17-year-old takes Pablo Couñago’s number with the Spaniard one of several players who have been moved out of the ‘first 11’.

Aside from Couñago, Alex Bruce goes from being Town’s number five to 21 and Owen Garvan switches from seven to 17. All three were amongst the eight players recently made available by the Blues, with only Lee Martin from that list getting a number between one and 11, picking up the final shirt.

There are various other moves with skipper Jon Walters going to number 10, David Norris switching to eight, Damien Delaney to five, Shane O’Connor to three, Jaime Peters to two and Brian Murphy to one. Kevin Lisbie gets 33.

Could people stop making excuses for Pablo.

Over the years he has probably taken in excess of £5 million in wages from ITFC and given us one good season. He's had plenty of chances.

Garvan is slow and has a VERY WEAK personality, had plenty of chances.

Sick and tired of players not giving 100% and feeling hard done to!! Players are far too spoilt, Shane Supple had a point!!

I used to know John Warks son, and used to go round to his house in Bucklesham in c.1990. At that point Warky had been one of our all time legends and had an amazing record for Liverpool.

....he lived in a 3 bed bungalow and drove an Audi 80. You couldnt wish to meet a nicer bloke!!

....if only most footballers were still as genuine and humble!!

if we are not going to buy any new players this season then i guess changing the numbers on the players should make a huge difference to our teams performance. no doubt this master stroke by keane will have us on top of the table and winning the championship by 10-12 pts what a genius our manager is

Surco72: Adding to what Yallop said, I think finishing 18th on 31 points with Palace relegated on 27 in his first season and then 19th on 34 points, with West Ham relegated on the same points and us only surviving on goal difference, pretty much covers the relegation dogfight part for Bobby Robson. Also I think RK got us to 15th last term, some 9 points above relegation... Now I'm not aying that's good for RK, but it isn't the end of the world as we know it.... That's a song isn't it? Talking of which their is another song that goes:

It's not where you start, it's where you finish
It's not how you go, it's how you land
A hundred to one shot, you call him a clutz
Can out run the favorite, all he needs is the guts
Your final return will not diminish
And you can be the cream of the crop
It's not where you start, it's where you finish
And you're gonna finish on top

Let's hope RK goes this way...
